You might try renting a compatible lens for a short spell from UHH-member MT Shooter in Montana (www.CameraCottage.com). Good luck with your new experience.

I'm coming back from the days of film cameras, and just bought a CANON 5D Mark ii last night and am feeling a bit despondent.

Being a pianist/keyboardist, I have powerful fingers, but that doesn't help much with a camera built for big, man-sized hands. I feel like not even buying any lenses for it at the moment and just getting rid of it, but I am sure everything will be fine once I actually get to using it. . . .

. . .so please, if anybody just wants to encourage me and say "Itsa gonna be okay", I would really appreciate it.

Wolfiebear, I have small hands, the same camera and just love it. I had the chance to upgrade (insurance claim) to a Mark III and decided against it. I stuck with the Mark II as I think it is super. Buy a nice lens for it and stick with it: you will get some great photos. I just this evening won Print of the Year at our camera club with a photo taken with it. Its a photo of dead flowers against a silver board, on my kitchen table with natural light, called Beautiful Decay! Give it a good try. If you find it is too big, then try the Sony a6000, which is also a terrific camera.

Thank you. I hope it will inspire Wolfiebear to stick with her 5D II.

Had you ever used a Canon F-1 Camera? They looked like they were built like a tank, like a Nikon F2. They must have been heavy for a SLR.

I was severely tempted by the F1 (the first mechanical F1). If I did not have a shoebox of lenses and live in an area where 90% of photojournalists carried Nikons, I would have gotten it.

OK a pick you up you need?! When you started piano what did you do???
Sit at the keyboard and belted out tunes??? Well, maybe. But my $0.02 is you practiced and practiced and practiced to get you to where you are today. My suggestion, get a lense on the camera and get out there and practice, practice and practice, you have a great camera there! Get shooting and post some frames for us! Oh, sorry, but it felt good!!! Enjoy

You might consider the Sony's A77 or Nikon df or 810.
Hopefully the snow will let up and try some of the cameras suggested at your local photo store or Bestbuy.

The Bestbuy here won't let you try cameras ?

Hi and welcome, maybe at 10,000 ft a little O2 would help. Seriously I'm new here and am used to larger cameras. I also had an A1 and one of the old Rebels. And now I'm learning on a new Fuji S1 which is tiny to me. Just like firearms and musical instruments practice and it soon becomes second nature. And to me that is part of the fun of a hobby. Good luck!

I'm over it, LOL. I get fritzed sometimes, and all you good folks were just so very nice about it to me. A gracious thank you to one and all.

I ordered a couple off lenses and am waiting for them to arrive now. Oh, and I will be posting a lens question too.
