Great topic Boxerdognaz, I myself have the T3i and been wanting to go to a full frame. I have both EF and EF-S lenses in my bag, so in no way would get rid of the T3i. I shoot everything as far as subject matter and I really enjoy the idea of getting great shots in low light. Do I spend the bucks and get the 5DIII or get the 6D and have money leftover for some "good" glass? It's great reading the quality replies from our UHH'S to help me make my own decision. Thanks again for the post!

jpopo I have T1i, T2i & 60D. I just added the 6D plus 24-105 L f/4. I have had lots of the EFs lenses especially the premiums. But I wanted to try the FF. I will be selling of some bodies and EFs lenses. I will keep the 60D & EFS 15-85 & 10-22.

I love the 6D & 24-105. I do miss the UWA of the EFs 10-22.

I hope to add 16-35 f/4 L & or 14 mm Korean lens before spring.

I just returned from shooting at dusk. The lowlight capabilities of the 6D are remarkable. It is nice to shoot with one lens. I do have EF 50, 85, 100, & a DO 70-300mm. It seems that my style is toward medium to UWA.

Best J. R.

Thanks so much for your input on my quote and not to take anything away from the OP, I just bought the 24-105L f4 this past December taking advantage of a sale and like you "love this lens". Prior to that I bought the EF 24 f2.8 IS USM to satisfy my wide angle needs. I can't wait to get it on a FF to actually have 24mm capabilities. I'm going to try renting the 6D when the weather gets warmer to see how it performs for me.

I use a Canon 7D at the moment but would like to take more landscapes and low light shots (indoor and out). Lenses I have are 50mm 1.4 , 100mm2.8 , 16-35mmF4L , 24-105L , 70-200MMF2.8 L and 400mmF5.6L. Would like to upgrade to full frame , which would you choose 5D3 or 6D.

Rumors are that the new 5Ds will be almost the same price as the 5Dmiii so you should check out that camera first of all

I just bought a 5D3 yesterday at $2500, not bad, but will drop further. I've been using a 6D for three years and planned on buying another, but decided to move up (I'm keeping the 6D for backup and travel).

So far I love it, but the. Again I still really like the 6D as well.

In couple of months you can get 5d3 for very good prices as Canon is expected to launch the new 5ds this week.

You mean the 5D Mk4. The 5Ds has been out for a while.

The 5DIII has the focus system the 6D just doesn't possess. The 5DIII has 41 cross type points, the 6D has "1". If precision focusing is a big concern for you, it's a no brainer.

People talk bad about the 6D and its focusing, but for a static shoot, with not much quick action, such as weddings, etc. it shoots great images. I have had several and loved it. It is somewhat of a misnomer to refer to 24-105L/4 as a kit lens, which is partially true, but it is my favorite Canon lens, along with the 70-200/2.8.

I chose the 5D mkIII over the 6D for many reasons beyond the dual drive.

If all your doing is landscape, get the cheaper camera!

You have a boat load of quality lens' so unless money is an issue the 5dIII gives you many more AF points and will get the best out of your lens selection. I too went through this when the DIII came out with the caveat, I'm primarily a landscape geek. I sold my kids and wife and now I'm happy to take pictures when I want. :) :)

Just 1 question about the wife and the kids. Did you sell them used or refurbished?

I own 7D Mark II and wanted to add a FF to my arsenal. Canon had both the 6D and 5D III in their refurb store. After much soul searching and looking at the delta in features, watching many comparison reviews, etc, I opted for the 6D and am very pleased. Yes the 5D III is a great camera but I could not justify the nearly double price. Keep in mind I still have the 7DII for sports and birds etc. If I was going to sell it and only have one FF camera then I'd have gone with the 5DIII

Many people consider th5D3 to have better AF than the 6D, and for many things (most things) it does. But, for very low light photography th 6D has the most sensitive center point of any Canon camera, good all the way down to EV -3. I've owned a 6D for quite a while and just added a 5D3 yesterday, and while the 5D3 is now my main camera, the 6D has served me very well, and will continue to do so hopefully for years to come.

Also, the 6D sensor is, in my opinion, slightly better. A bit better, perhaps a half stop at high ISO, and perhaps a half stop more dynamic range above ISO 800. Below 800 they essentially look the same.
