I have a Canon T3i, which was quite the splurge for me. Folks say I take good shots. I was asked to print up a bunch of photos of anything nature and display them in my church's "lobby gallery". My goodness, when you throw the pics in a frame, they look even better.

I love wildlife and am just not getting in close enough for my satisfaction. The hubs wanted to get me a new lens for Christmas and I said, "Don't you go buying anything without me scoping the stuff out."

Let me just say, I am in awe of the beautiful photos I'm seeing on this forum. I'm quite sure I know that I "need" the Tamron 150-600 :)

Thanks for the inspiration!

This is a no-brainer(I hate that phrase, my apologies for it's usage). Let the guy buy the lens for you. Give him a break! He wants to be good to you. LET HIM

Even though it all comes out of the same checkbook (or maybe savings acct) he can buy it, I just want a say-so in its purchase.

Judy, Welcome to the Hog Farm. :-D

Don't forget you have options.
I am a Tamron 150-600mm guy.
But there is another gun in town, The Sigma 150-600mm Sport model. It is also twice the price of the Big T, weighs 2 pounds more, and is weather sealed.
So before you buy, you might like to consider the SigZilla along with the Big Tammy.

My experiance has been interesting with my lens.
I started with DSLR photography last July (2014) and still call myself a rank amateur. But every time I venture out I am more pleased than the time before.
My "thing" is Humming Birds, and Grand Kids and soccer games they've been in since the were 3.

The Tamron has, in my experiance, a very tight DOF (depth of Field) and it has taken me literally 10's of thousands of shots to figure it out. But that's how I learn, hands on.
Rather than continue to expound, or bable as one displeased jerk PM'd me, here is a link to a very recent thread about the Tamron.

Maybe some of the Sigzilla guys can bring in some shots for you as well. Two I do know are MT Shooter, and Nikon DonB

OK... Welcome to the Hog!

I look forward to any photographs you'd care to share. ;)

PS: If your disi, you might want to sit down or hold on to something.

You will most likely need a GOOD tripod and head with one of those gig rigs.

I would seriously consider consulting MT Shooter, as SonnyE suggested. He has a lot of experience and is a dealer.

Also, ask him about the newer 80-400VR lens--that's the "equivalent" of a 120-600 on your camera. Might be a good choice.

Good luck, and have fun.

Oh. BTW--you're right about you choosing what you want/need--but do let your husband pay for it. Best of both worlds!!

I'm not really disi - it stands for Designs In Stitches Inc, an embroidery business I ran for 20 years. It was better than (as my husband would say) "We're Stitch & Bitch, I'm Stitch". So I'm good. :)
