Good question Ray. Since you haven't mentioned what camera you use, I can only speak of Canon bodies. Canon has a feature in the menu called "picture style." That feature allows you to increase / decrease 1) contrast, 2) sharpness, 3) saturation and 4) tonality. Nikon's have that same feature but may call it by a different name. Fact is, it allows you to have fun capturing images under different lighting conditions such as cloudy days. Be sure to set your white balance to "cloudy" and don't rely on AWB. Have fun and I'll attach one cloudy example. Best, J. Goffe
Good question Ray. Since you haven't mentioned wha... (show quote)

Pentax also has this feature for all the "picture styles". But, does not this only apply to the JPG photo?

A cloudy day and a good CPL will give you very nice photos.

Any ideas on how to bring out the best, the most interesting, the most quality in cloudy day photography?

Make sure you set WB for cloudy. You will have to do some contrast, clarity, and vibrance in LR. The biggest problem is that although the light is very diffuse, it is also non-directional usually. You may have to use OCF to add some directional light. Shoot raw for max capability of PP adjustments.

You make a good argument G . I like to get the best picture I can, color and clarity au natural. But maybe I am missing something. I like to think I can get it all without pp, maybe I am kidding myself.

Yes, white balance and picture styles only applies to JPEG's. Many think it affects everything that it doesn't.

One advantage to cloudy day shooting is that you don't have problems with shadows. The light is more stable
