Well, maybe .... this is just a rumour at present but Canon users are getting a bit fed up of third rate Sensors so Canon need to do something.

Is this the something?

1) No question that Sony are leaders in sensors and sensor technology.

2) Nikon buy sensors from Sony

3) Canon

I've been shooting Canon for quite some time... I never saw a "third rate sensor" in my gear.

That really sounds like a real news bulletin you have come across. You must be the smartest guy in the world.
Before you go any further, since you are so much ahead on everything photography you might want to tell most all of those photographers at Nat Geo as well as many other quality image publications plus literally millions of pros around the world that they have been using "third" rate sensors. I am sure they will be happy to hear from the all knowing photo guru such as you are.

Listen, there's nothing wrong with the sensors in Canon cameras, they all competitively stand out in their class. Whatever shortcomings you are experiencing, it's lack of photographer skill, not the sensor.

Concerning the rumor you linked to, the article itself classifies it as, "...from an unknown/new source, but otherwise at least a plausible rumor". Any information originating from an unknown source should be looked upon with heavy skepticism. For all we know, the article's author may have fabricated the rumor to have something attention-grabbing to write about!

Just to be clear, I started this thread with tongue in cheek but some of you are getting a bit warm under the collar. Yes, I know it's only a rumour, I said so in the opening post.

Having said that, the fact is that Canon Sensors are lagging behind those from Sony, this is accepted by all except the committed Canon fan boy.

Japanese companies have a long track record of cooperation so, although I doubt the veracity, the rumour has the possibility of being truth.

So it is "accepted" by all that Canon sensors are inferior? Exactly how do you know this? You seem to be the definitive expert on all things sensor. So please, please help the unwashed and share your vast knowledge with us. How do you know this oh wise one? Again, you will need to notify all of those pros that make their living with Canon that all these years they have been making a living with an inferior product. So enlighten us Sony fan boy.

It was Oscar Wilde who said “Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit” and I find myself in agreement.

Unless you have your head buried in the sand you don't have to cast the net very far before you find seasoned Pros like Michael Reichman and others saying the same thing about the inferiority of Canon Sensors compared to those from Sony. Look in the DxO Sensor rankings and you find the best that Canon can do is with the EOS 1Dx which occupies a lowly 32nd place.

Let me turn this on it's head and ask you to point to any recent authority claiming that Canon has the better Sensor Technology for stills photography.

Note that I am not and have not said that Canon make poor cameras, just that they have fallen well behind the opposition in Sensor technology. Of course, we know things can change and it may be that Canon have a secret weapon ready to unleash. Who knows!

Just as I thought. You make broad rash statements that you cannot support and that you have no answer for. Feeble try, attempting to answer a question with a question. And it appears you are too stupid to know the difference.
