This is an event I participate in every January. It is a pre 1840s camp that is the largest of it's kind in the southeast.
just before dawn
low lying fog near tipis
after sunset
Rendezvous mountain man
frontier trade blanket
suttler shop
young family
It's me! With my cake cooked without electricity, in a dutch oven firepit on the ground.
playing a game of Graces
black powder experts
Allen and his dog Dixie
prairie play
kids have fun without modern amenities!
Ooops.....you meant "teepees"
I looked at your title and thought what the heck is a "tipis" ?
;) ;)
Interesting set. I didn't realize native Americans made donuts. ;)

Actually tipi, tepee and teepee are all phonetically correct and used. In a lot of reading and years of teaching history/geography I have seen all three used in novels, nonfiction, histories and text books.
As to the costumes and food, this is a group of reenactors and not all do the same period or style. Except for the authentinazis most don't worry, they just have a good time.
Oh, look again, those are pineapple rings on an"upside down cake". They didn't have canned pineapple either, but I will bet no one refused to eat some because it wan't authentic.

Thanks Robert! Actually you are correct. And I am portraying a Spanish Colonial woman from 1740, the first Spansh Colonial period in Florida. And we eat alot of things in the camps, some period correct, some not. There are over 1000 camps. Thanks for looking.
