From the start you knew that this ride was not going to end well. Lane splitting as its called is not a good thing.

In the US, lane splitting is okay in California and there have been attempts to pass legislation that would legalize lane splitting in other states. Lane splitting is legal in much of the rest of the world

Lane splitting in 5th gear is just stupid. In fact riding (or driving) at that speed in traffic is completely irresponsible. It has nothing to do with lane splitting.

Lane splitting done responsibly aids the flow of traffic and in stop and go traffic lane splitting is safer for motorcyclists than riding in the lanes with the cars.

Now that's what I call a real organ donor!

Back in the 80's, helmets were optional for a while in Maryland. When I was out riding, if I happened to stop next to another motorcyclist who was not wearing one, I would hand him an organ donor card from the American Kidney Foundation. Some thought that I was being a smartass, but most of them saw the logic of what I was asking them to do.
Having worked in healthcare for 42 years (now retired), I've seen what can happen when riders don't wear a helmet or when they wear the "novelty" helmets. I won't ride without a helmet. I also use a headlight modulator when I ride during daylight hours, it pisses some drivers off, but they never fail to see me. I highly recommend them to anyone that rides.

And a couple of days ago, I "ran into" a group of about 10 of these IDIOTS doing the same thing, and, wheelies at about 75 mph, on the North Central Freeway here in Dallas. If one of them had tried to cut me off, like they did to several others, I'd "flatten" him/her without even thinking about it... They all had passengers to boot...

BTW: I've got more that 1M miles on my butt (on my 11 Harleys, including 2 "flat track" racers)

A large group of these type riders came through St Louis a few months back and were going down the interstate and neighborhoods doing their wheelies, etc. One of them got carried away and hit a police car sitting at the curb....Killed the bike rider.

At the risk of sounding calloused....It is always a shame to waste a good motorcycle.

Yes but the rider was a complete idiot so he would not be missed. The bike would be missed.

from what I read the rider is a 16 year old kid and I am very sure his mother and father would not agree. WE ALL did stupid things at that age and some of us even older, we were just lucky or maybe just not our time.

No, he should not of been riding the way he was but as the saying goes let him without sin cast the first stone and jfyi, that would not be me.

This reminds me of when I worked at Christchurch hospital. One of the nurses said to me "if you had seen some of the things I''ve seen, you would never ride a motor bike".She then lit up another cigerette. I know which way I'd rather go.
