I look at shots like this and try to imagine what it must have been like for early pioneers trying to make their way across the land and over the mountains. I wonder whether they were impressed by the beauty or overwhelmed by the task.

Thanks, Vick. I can't imagine trying to get a wagon through the mud and over the rocks and across rivers to some place I've never seen in order to start a new life.

The trees are Pinon Pines ( I think). The mtns down in the San Luis Valley are beautiful.

Great shot, and as you were saying to Vicki it must have been quite a hardship to travel before modern highways. I can remember my father talking about coming to Virginia in a covered wagon, and some other family members heading for California. My dad was born in 1889.
