I took this picture using a G.E. A950 w/9.1megapixel w/ 5x6.3-31.5mm/ f:3.0-4.7lens at night w/ built-in flash.Iwas standing when I shot the picture. I had it all the way on 5x zoom. the clarity is not very good ,should ihave used a tripod. how bout some answers if any.

I know I HAVE to use a tripod and any slow shutter speed. It makes all the difference in the world.

It took me a long time to be able to capture images of the moon I was happy with. The Moon is very bright, so actually you don't need a slow shutter. Of course start with the tripod and use a cable release if possible, or set camera to self timer if you can't use a cable release. Set your camera to manual focus, and focus it out to infinity. Play around with your settings. Start out at F/8 and 1/200th of a second. Keep playing with the adjusting of these settings till you like what you are getting.
These were my final settings for this image;
Canon EOS 40D / 400.0mm / f/7.1 (1/160) ISO 100
(Even with a 400mm lens this is still cropped)
