Check out the Sony "High Zoom Point and Shoot" type of camera. Has all you are looking for plus a decent zoom for a point and shoot. Has all the settings from manual to compete auto. Burst in 2 modes - 10 pix in one second or 10 pix in 10 seconds. You also get the added benefit of putting it in your pocket with no hassle. They run on their own rechargeable Sony or equivalent batteries. Regardless of what she ends up with, always have her carry extra batteries and an extra memory card.

Hello!

We are super excited to have found this site. My daughter (12) and I have been searching high and low for a camera that will take good action shots that do not come out grainy and blurry. We have tried two different camera's already with no luck, but with that being said we are not pro's and it could be operator error. She only has about 250.00 to spend which I know is a huge stretch from what she probably needs. We looked at a Nikon 830 but was advised against because it takes AA batteries and she would be using it constantly. We also tried and failed with a Cannon SX 600 and one step above. We were advised we need "burst mode" Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Have a wonderful day all:)

You might do well to search-out a used (or refurbished) Canon SX-50. It would be in your budget and give you many great features, in addition to a 50x zoom, when needed. Good camera to 'grow into'.

I shoot barrel racing almost every weekend outside and inside. I use a Nikon D7100 with a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 for all of the barrel racing. I started out with the D5000 which served me well. I take it that you will be doing the shooting so what ever camera you get make sure it feels good in your hands and a monopod for steadiness. Look on craigslist and of course e-bay.
If you question the prices you find Google it to see what new prices are.
That will give you an idea if you are getting ripped off..sometimes its not the camera but the lens that makes the difference.

If you get a camera that takes specific rechargable batteries, make sure to get a spare battery...

What you're looking for and in fact many newcomers are looking for is a very high end camera. You don't think your requirements are that demanding but really they are. I am sure you don't have in mind of buying a high end camera that costs thousands of dollars. I think the best bet is to buy a so so camera for the $250 and learn to make the best with what you have.
