Recieved e-mail from nikon rumors to check serial number, to see if my camera is affected with flare issue. Followed by prepaid label and packing list, if it is affected. I think i will send it back, if for no other reason but a good cleaning. Anyone else returning or not ?

I'd check with Nikon first. Before I sent any camera to a pre-paid address label, I'd verify with Nikon Repair Service first. I believe there are two Nikon Repair Stations in the US. Their tech support is quite good. So, spend a few minutes calling Nikon and inquiring about the validity of that provided process.

Sending it to the address provided may void the warranty, if that is still within the warranty period.

TO THE OP:

Ordinarily I would have snorted an made a remark about "no faith", but, in this case, John is wise and correct. If you send in your D750 without recall papers attached, it does stand a remote chance of getting lost in the thousands of recalled cameras and end up being "misdirected" to another part of the repair department. This is very unlikely with NikonUSA, but I have seen it happen; a customer of my local store sent in his D600 for CLA and it took them thirteen weeks to find it. He got his camera (actually a new D610) back, along with some tokens of regret and a letter of apology, and the camera when finally shipped was sent overnight and specially delivered (at the store). A repair center in the midst of a gigantic recall can be like a store on Black Friday; I have seen the confusion at a large very well known computer and other electronics distribution center when a certain smartphone was recalled.

Unless yours is specifically recalled, don't send it at this time. Don't worry about the flare problem. Even if yours isn't recalled, if you will wait until the crisis is over and then send it for CLA, it will be thoroughly checked for the flare problem and you will get your camera back quickly and thoroughly CLA'd.

I contacted Nikon last night re this issue & if I were you I'd do the same, they ask for your serial # & an email address as I have an account there ( had it for years). They replied with an advisory telling me to send it back for a free service, I happen to live on Long Island & work a few miles from the ir site & will be dropping it off today! But first check to see if there is a black dot in the tripod socket then go thru their site as I mentioned. Don't just return it without a copy of their advisory!

I do have the D750 with the problem. I contacted Nikon. They said there is a fix coming soon and they would let me know. Sounds like they will make an adjustment on the mirror. So far I have not heard back form them.

Nikon have posted a link so you can check the camera serial number to see if it is effected. Mine was and is going back for repair. Nikon have you print out a pre-paid UPS lable and a slip to place in the box with the camera. The camera tripod thread screw is then maked as that camera having been repaired. Check on Nikon Rumers website. This issue is with the first 30,000 D750's manufactured. Hopefully you don't have a grey import as I'm not sure of Nikons position on that. Without the fix it could hinder a resale down the road, not to say if at some point you do have a light point in just the wrong place and it ruins a photograph.
