Both are nice shots although I prefer the second one. The forested area partially hides the mountain. Is there any vantage point that you can get a higher elevation so that you can see more of the mountain? I take a lot of Mt Rainier and find that location for the photographer can make significant changes in the appearance of the mountain. If you can capture the foothills in front of the mountain, it makes the photo much more dramatic.

I believe there are spots within Baxter State park that allow a better vantage point for photographing the mountain. This was a view driving from Medway to Millinocket. I hope to get into the park while there is still snow on the mountain. Right now, I believe the only way into the park is with a snowmobile which I don't do!
