Subscribe?? Your local fishwrap will appreciate it. ;)

Good advice on how to set diopter setting.

So you read the fishwrap, oops, I mean the UT also?

First decide if you're going to wear glasses when you use your camera or not.
Steal a newspaper from the local coffee shop (where else are you going to get one?) and tape one page up to your wall. Shine some light on it...lots of light. With your camera on a tripod about 6 feet away, allow it to auto-focus on the paper.
Without changing anything, look through your viewfinder and turn the little diopter-correction knob until it's sharp and clear in the finder. Start out turning it way to one end, and then the other, so you'll see what it looks like "fuzzy". Then zero in to maximum sharpness.
If you're trying to NOT use your glasses, your eyes will have to be within the given range allowed for by the diopter correction. If your eyes are too far gone, you'll be stuck wearing glasses while photographing.
Good luck...hope you can "see the light!"

Hope you get that figured out ahz. I wear a single contact to shoot. My "dominent" eye wears the contact for distance, so I shoot with the other one (would that be the subservient eye?) with diopter adjust.

You, wearing one lens, are in better shape than most of us with glasses. I wore contacts for years and shooting photography was much easier with contacts. It was explained to me that the air distance between the lens on your glasses and the eye actually messes up sharp focus of a camera. And, I believe it. At least that is my excuse and I am sticking to it.

If you are choosing to go without your glasses, as I do when shooting. I just bought a diopter that was the correction of the lens of the eye I shoot with. Under $20 and it works great

Hi Nikon DonB. I havent been to Chicago since 1952 when I was in machinest mate school in Greatlakes Navel base. What a great liberty town. Never had to pay for anything. The USO gave us free passes for the shows and the ballgames. After that went to Portsmith, My ship was there in drydock. What a defferance. They hated sailores there.

I have seven dioptics in my current percription glasses
and I find myself looking through the wrong part of my glasses
I don't know what is best shooting without glasses or with glasses I might buy those glasses with the hinged lenses.
