First pic post - Devil's Staircase
This is a photo taken looking south on Hwy 12- The Highway of Legends. I'm using my only decent camera, a Sony HX200V superzoom bridge. It was taken a couple of years ago and only the metadata knows what settings were used.
This is my first attempt to upload a photo so ...
Devil's Staircase
OK, so I see this isn't as nice as I thought. At least it worked.

I like the picture!
There is a little check box next to where you pick the file. It says "store original". If you do that, viewers here can see a less compressed and more detailed image.

Ron, you might try checking the (store original box) to the right of the picture attachements box. This will present a high resolution image and is more likely to meet your expectations.
Ok Ron, do as they said so we can get a better look.
Thanks guys. I'll check the "store original" next time and see if it makes any difference.
Since you entered no location in your profile you are "in hiding".
There is a highway 12 in each of the 50 states if you are in the US. If not in the US then all bets are off as to where this is. We don't even know which continent.
Sorry about that. I haven't even checked my profile to see what it says. Guess I'd best take care of housekeeping.
Meanwhile, I'm in Texas, but the photo was made in Colorado (south central).
OK, the image has a lot of potential. Just needs some PP, mostly in the realm of color enhancement to bring out the reds, yellows etc in the trees.
You also might want to square the foreground off with the edge and make it level, people don't like slants unless there is an obvious reason, like a slope in the ground.
Had you done any post processing before posting?
Definite slope up there. I'm not sure there is anything you could call level ground. Adjusting the pic just wouldn't be right (if I understood you correctly).
No PP on this. I have PSElements but don't do much with it except crop and remove red eye. I've done a little color and contrast playing around but am definitely a rookie in this department.
My camera spits out JPG only. All my pics have great color and contrast on the camera's LCD but always disappoint on my computer screen.
PSE is a good program. JPEG can be worked with. Not as much as RAW, but still very good results can be achieved.
I really needed a download but just by doing a copy and paste into PSE 13 I took a stab at showing what I meant.
The camera LCD and the monitor are set much different from each other. Get them as close to each other as you can by checking the color settings and make them as close as you can. Calibrating the monitor will also help. Go to the "Post Processing" section of the forum and they can give a lot of help and advice on what to do and how to learn. There are lots of tutorials for PSE on the web.

Welcome!
I have Elements 12 and love it. There are lots of basic tweaks you can quickly learn under the "quick" tab. And UHH has a post-processing forum with FAQ's, helpful links and other goodies. You can post an image there (store original) and ask for assistance specific to your editing program.

Great composition. I would crop off some of the sky. If you had HDR you could have made the trees a bit brighter or I often like silhouettes in the foreground. I hope you don't think I am picking on you. I know that you are new. The HOG is best when you can learn or teach. David
Griz - thanks, that does look better. Guess it's time to get into PSE more seriously. Gotta love your avator.
Linda (and Griz) - will check out the Post Processing forum.
David - no prob picking on me/it. I held a sheet of paper over the top of the photo and it does look better with less sky.
I'll be posting more photos so I expect to be learning from all you guys (and ladies).
thanks all,
ron
