Enjoyed Sunday night seeing the GG Bridge closed for the first time since the 89' quake. It was closed ofr two days while they installed a "zipper barrier" and plugged 15,000 holes where the old movable "plug" cones were placed and moved for commute traffic every day.
It was open for walking and bikes on the east sidewalk only.
No Traffic
opprtunity for long exposure practive
First time use of the zipper mobile
Super shots. Great you could take advantage of the opportunity.
Technically, the GG Bridge has also been closed briefly for the Tour of California bike race over the bridge, which I photographed in May, 2013.
I like the first shot a lot, and I have a couple of images nearly identical to your 2nd one, which I also love - that's a nice angle/composition.
Thanks Allen. I have enjoyed a lot of your work. A role model.
Wish I had taken photos of the 50th anniversary when the pedestrian load exceed the limits of the bridge weight capabilities. If you remember the bow of the road deck went flat and officials sweated the fact that the bridge may have been "broken".
Luckily for us amateurs, there really is no way to take a bad image of the GG Bridge.

Thanks, Captxmas, that's very nice of you to say.
I too wish I had done the 50th anniversary walk for the unique images, but I didn't want to get caught in a crowd of that size, so I stayed away.
Wow I am amazed!! Awesome photographs.
Love the view angle of the first one. I've never seen that before. Where were you? Merchant Road?
Thank You all for your comments.
Photoninny - If you walk under the bridge from the usual viewing areas on the south end, a walking/biking trail leads up hill towards the old gun emplacements that guarded the bay during WW II. anywhere along this west side of the bridge trail offers this head on view. Also possible from the viewing area on the North end of the bridge.
Good luck getting your shot.
Thanks captxmas. I'll give it a try next time I'm in town. Hope the weather is clear.

wonderful shots...great opportunity for a fun photo shoot!
Great empty bridge shots. I had to Google the zipper mobile. Looks like a damn expensive way to do things. In Canada, we do it with lights and arrows. :D

More opportunity to favor contractors, add in a little graft, etc. - sort of the political American Way. ;)
I really like the second one best.
Good shots, captxmas! I love #2.
