More "tween" level arguing. How often do you see ads for a Leica M3?
True, but forgetting their quality and their classic status, how many of this 50 - 60 year old model are even out there to be sold in the secondary market? If they were as commonly owned as Canon or Nikon gear you'd probably see plenty of them for sale. Just because something is sold in the secondary market doesn't make it inferior. People sell things they own for a variety of reasons.
The closest to "Nikon" is the Nicean Creed, the more elaborate version of the Apostles' Creed. It was ordered by emperor Constantine in the early 300s to solve conflicts in the church like the one between Nikon and Canon. If you look at the history of the church you can see how successful it was. Just as successful as our UHH debates. And a lot less fun.
Good lord, here we go again, don't you people every get tired of getting drawn into these crazy conversations? Who cares? This site has great potential for photographers, but people like sidetrack the purpose of an otherwise great site ...

This is cute. Canon sells a lot because they have marketed mostly to the casual snapshooter who used to buy a point and shoot, but now can brag that "I have a Canon DSLR" just like the big boys. You can buy a Canon T3i with a lens for under $400. That's less than some P&S cameras. Now you can say "I'm a photographer" instead of "I take pictures."
Nikon users take photographs. Canon users take snapshots. :P :XD: :XD:
A Nikon user if I ever heard one. He has a Nikon, and you don't!
A side note: according to the company the word Nikon is pronounced Knee con. I thought that was interesting since most of us pronounce it Nie con or Nic con.
Even if the statement had truth, it would mean nothing. How many Canons are sold versus Nikon? How many were sold five years ago versus Nikon? Why are they being sold - do people love their Canons so much they want to upgrade? The useful statistic would be the percentage of Canon owners who upgrade to a new Canon and the percentage of Nikon owners who upgrade to a new Nikon. Or owners who buy the same brand as gifts for loved ones.
Toyota says something like "90% of all Toyotas sold in the last ten years are still on the road". That is a meaningless statement - since 90% of those sold may have been sold in the last ten years could have been sold in the past five years. Their implication of course, is that 90% of Toyotas will still be driving in ten years - but they won't tell you that. The statistic you would really want is the percentage sold TEN years ago that are still on the road.
"Figures lie and liars figure".
"He uses statistics as a blind man uses a lamp-post: not for illumination, but for support."
Even if the statement had truth, it would mean not... (show quote)
Good one Doc! You sure laid it on the op...

In the classifieds why is it nearly always Canon for sale and seldom Nikon? The answer is obvious, if you have a Nikon you are not going to get rid of it. I await the insults.
Check out Craigslist and I see page after page of Nikon stuff for sale. Nuff said.
No insults on my part! Every photographer is different and when a camera is selected it is usually because it has the features we need or use more often, because it feels comfortable in the hands and in many cases brand loyalty. Modern cameras, regardless of brand, are excellent tools and they all have a good assortment of interchangeable lenses. I cannot tell which brand sells more often than the others but it could easily be Canon and perhaps that explains why there are more Canons than anything else for sale in the second hand market. I bet you do not see a Pentax for sale that often in the second hand market.

Well, I for one am a Canon guy that just recently is considering a Nikon. I have a Canon 60D that is seriously thinking about the purchase of the Nikon 7100. As I keep reading reviews that in most articles I've read the quality of the photos are better. Just a beginner so any debate as to another camera suggestion will be helpful!
