It's the third generation of the lens.

It is Canon's third version of this lens. It is a low cost kit lens. I believe it has been discontinued. They go on eBay for about $65. I do not know the differences between the versions one through three. Slight improvements I would guess. This lens has an EF mount and will work with any of Canon's DSLR EOS (auto focus) camera bodies.

Sure - pretty common to see a II or III of a lens if the lens maker does an update to a lens while keeping the same focal length and f stop.

You'd pronounce it "Mark 3." It is sometimes written out as "Mark III." On the lens, you'll simply see the characters "III."

It means the third version of the lens. So it has been improved.

Hope this helps.
