Mine has been shipped. It will be very convenient to ask Alexa nearly anything you can imagine and get an answer without having to Google it. A very interesting product.

Has anyone bought, looked at or ordered the Echo? I signed up a couple months ago saying I was interested and yesterday received an email telling me I could order. Looks interesting, I can talk to it!

Neat! The Nikon I will prchase in 2016: Nikon, set my f-stop at 7.1, my shutter speed to 125, give me a 3 burst shot with one stop between each exposure, and correct horizon to level. All the while it will be playing my favorite music!

Lucky you! I just checked mine and it's expected to get to me by APRIL 16th! Wow, I thought it was next week...I guess I'm just going to have to ponder what the meaning of life is until the Spring. :-)

Please excuse my last few posts. I forgot to hit "quote reply".

Just think, now when someone inquires about the advantages of shooting in RAW we can tell them to ask "Alexa".

We are Prime members....just placed our order for Echo @ $99.
It really is just a useful tool to have around the house. It does so much more than give mountain heights. You want to hear a specific type of music or artist...just ask and it will play it. You want to add something to your shopping list on your smart phone....just tell it. If your cooking and need to know the conversion of some measurement....it will do it. Tell it when to wake you up...done!AND keep you abreast of your appointments and events your interested in.
So....it really can be very useful on many fronts....including answering those silly trivia questions that tend to pop at times.

You all make me smile! I can't wait to get it thinking it will play my music and turn it off when I want. Wouldn't it be nice if you could get Alexa to turn off the light at night? I'd really appreciate that! I'm looking forward to April! :D

Dennis,
It's from Amazon, so don't you think the answer you're going to get will be,

"The meaning of life is to shop with AMAZON and become a member of Amazon PRIME so you can get what you don't really need faster"???

Or, you might just get the old answer of:

"The meaning of life is 43" as stated in "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy".

There's already SIRI as a verbal command service from APPLE and Cortana on Nokia's phones, and at least these have more function than ECHO. So, unless you live alone and need another voice in the house as your personal assistant, I see no useful purpose for this gadget.

LOL.
Dennis, br It's from Amazon, so don't you think th... (show quote)

Thanks for the reminder of "The meaning of life is 43" as stated in "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy".
I had completely forgotten it.
:-D

Well reading all these spelling lessons and manners lessons sure distracts one from the initial question, don't they?

When your ECHO arrives, try placing it next to your Apple SIRI and Nokia Cortana and have them all debate the advantages and disadvantages of shooting RAW or JPEG. Or ask which is better, NIKON or CANON. If you ask the meaning of life, it could be a short debate though. LOL.

I once got lost and asked ONSTAR where I was and all I got was "No Service Found. You're LOST".
Machine intelligence is only as smart as the people who program it.

Are you kidding me, Viking? I don't want to hear a couple of females arguing, I'm the only female here, except my dog and I know my place, she still thinks she's the alpha female in this house! :)

Hey, when you leave the house, you can always have them arguing in the kitchen so robbers think there's someone home.
Cheap security system and no burglar wants to break in on a bunch of woman arguing. LOL.

Good idea, it's just Alexa, Siri and a little terrier yapping at the two! Thanks for the idea, Viking, but I'll have to wait until April, Amazon wants to tempt us. Maybe someone will cancel and they'll send me theirs...I can dream... :)
