Long story short - I purchased Topaz Impression and then couldn't install it due to the graphics card. After a lot of effort and time to update, it turned out that I needed to get a new graphics card which I purchased. New graphics card is now installed and Impressions shows up in my PSE 12 list of plug ins, however it now will not open. Impressions also loaded to my desktop and it will open there outside of PSE. I didn't think any Topaz programs opened ouutside of a another program. Any ideas of how to get it to open in the plug in list as the other Topaz programs do? Or any ideas why it will not open. I also loaded it in a new laptop and everything works as expected there - just not on my desktop computer. Thanks in advance!
Long shot:
Uninstall Topaz
Reboot
Reinstall Topaz
If that doesn't work
Uninstall Topaz & PSE
Reboot
Install PSE & Topaz
I have had similar issues with Topaz, and have found the issues with the plug in being related to RAM memory. I have app FreeMemoryPro installed on my computer, and can watch my RAM usage. Often times if I have my browser open, and any photo software, my RAM memory gets pretty full. Secondly, a lot of time you will see that the RAM tied up even if you close some of the photos, so you have to use the app to clear the memory. After freeing the memory, Topaz opens right up. First thing to do is close your browser when working with photos. The browser is a
RAM hog, especially if you have several tabs open.
I'd get in touch with the Topaz help center first, and see what they recommend. just a thought
I was having problems with a couple of Topaz plugins working and my problem was PC Matic Super Shield. If I turn PC Matic Super Shield off all works fine.

Very old saying... in doubt reboot. Yes, I understand the need that he has for a new graphics. Onboard are not very good and builders to keep price low use cheap... "low cost" .... graphics cards... usually none, just on board.
I need a new graphics card....mine is now down to $29, but has shading capabilities and does work with Impressions... so if you run a bottle-neck analysis on my computer, it is the graphics card that is mudding down the speed. Stepwize upgrading... beyond that it is a new MOBO+CPU+16gig memory, buying parts will run about $500... and the card will be used.
Now that I am running Sony HX50 with 22 mb I really notice the time I have to relax while the Topaz/Graphics processing is going on.... I recommend one for $1500, but will get one for about $140

Uninstall Elements just because of a third-party plug-in problem? For Pete's sake! This is an overkill! Even if the plug-in was crashing Elements, this is no reason to uninstall this program. If the plug-in is the problem, you remove it. That's all!
Adobe Labs had their share of problems with the release of Impression. There were cases of this plug-in not working properly even when your video card met all the requirements. There was another problem when Microsoft released one of its updates. That's why Topaz Labs released an update to Impression. The current version is 1.1.2. It adds some features and fixes the bugs.
One should skip the middleman and go straight to the Topaz Labs site for help. Download the latest version of this plug-in.

For the record: I am in a 30-day Impression trial. I can open it directly from the desktop or as a filter in CS6.

Yes, that is correct. But for the record as well: When Topaz Labs first released Impression, the standalone version was also plagued with problems. These problems were not limited to the plug-in version.

If you are going to upgrade your video card to meet Impression requirements, you should look into one of the video cards in the Topaz Labs list.

You should slow down on the coffee. An uninstall isn't a molar removal.

I agree. It is not a molar removal but even Adobe in their troubleshooting suggestions recommends that uninstalling and reinstalling Elements should be the last option. The only time Adobe recommends uninstalling and reinstalling Elements as the first option is when this program doesn't behave properly FROM THE MOMENT YOU INSTALL IT. The Adobe Designing Team has created a program which pretty much takes care of itself. In the situation being discussed here Elements was working well until Topaz Impression got installed. It is evident which one is to be blamed here. It is not Elements but Topaz (or one of the Microsoft updates).
I'll leave you be, I'm not going to finance the South American coffee industry.

By the way, I don't drink coffee. Once again, a wrong assumption on your part.
Thank you for all your comments and suggestions. Before trying to re-install, I tried the reboot and .... whoola, it's working! Haven't had much opportunity to play with the program yet, but it sure looks different than the previous Topaz programs I have and enjoy. Sure hope this one was worth all the time, frustration, and extra $$$ spent! Thanks again!
