I got to use the 24-120, hooked on a Nikon D-90, & I got good results, even at night shots, its a damn shame Nikon don't make a 24-120 with a f 2.8.

They could. It would weigh a ton, cost a fortune, and give pictures way inferior to the 24-70 f 2.8. No one in his or her right mind would buy it.

Considering either going with the kit lens, 24-120, or spending a little more for the 24-70 f2.8. This will be my first lens for a FX and thus my main lens other than a 70-200 some day and a prime lens for portraits.

What do you think? Go with the 24-120 or the 24-70? I just would rather spend more on the f2.8 if that's the way to go - I mainly shoot landscape and family pics... Thanks.

I have the Nikon 24-120 & Nikon 70-200 both are great lens. I use the 70-200 for sports (wrestling, football and lacrosse) can't beat it. I use the 24-120 for traveling and walk around lens, great lens and really good range for traveling.

The 24-120 is a fine lens, covers a longer focal range, and has a good VR which extends it's low light capability. Buy a 105 f2.8 Macro for portraits and general use as your second lens if you feel the need; or a 85mm f1.8 just for portraits.

It appears to me that this really boils down to opinions going back and forth I have the d750 kit and no nothing of sharpness comparisons. If I had both I could chime in with actual thought. A bmw vs a Hyundai? Depends if u need a good quality ride or "precision German engineering" for a lot more money

It's Windows vs a Mac or f2f vs f2f in camera terms. If we have just the 24 120 we may. Think it just works great. I will let know if I see a difference in the d750 and fx and weight and cost vs d5000 and f2f lens. I got some great pics with. Tray camera and will not part with it

Let me see if I change my mind
Hopefully I will see a big change with d750 all things being equal

Thanks my next GAS is the 24-70 2.8

No matter what the banter back and forth is a fun read

...and I picking up some things too

Thanks

Go back and take a look at the photos you have taken in the past year. What focal range did you use the most. Use that as a guide for your purchase. As for me would select lens speed over reach.
