I'm always plagued by the weight of my SLR/lens around my neck while traveling and walking about all day. I want the camera handy so a belt case isn't going to work. Does anyone know of a strap arrangement that will ease the back pain that I get halfway through the day and still leave the camera ready to shoot?

Thanks!

Try one of the Black Rapid straps or the Spider Pro belt system

I myself HATE neck straps, so I went with an R strap by Black Rapid a year or two ago. It does well for me.

There are several variations of sling straps nowadays.

Black Rapid RS4...
Hangs at you side out of the way...camera just slides up the strap when you want to take a shot...
Takes the weight off your neck.
I have had several cervical spine surgeries (plates and screws) and cannot tolerate anything on my neck and this solved the problem nicely...

The black rapid uses a carabiner clip to connect to the camera, The FastenR clip can screw into the tripod socket, then you just attach the carabiner clip to the FastenR clip... I added a plate to the bottom of my D7100, that has a round hole, so the carabiner clip just goes thru the hole.

The plate attaches with a knurled knob, and my tripod QR plate is mounted last...

They also sell QR plates with a FastenR built in.

I do like the locking Carabiner.

Super sturdy and super easy.

Another + for BlackRapid.

They seem expensive - until you get one and try it.

Agree... took me almost 10 minutes to appreciate it and agree it was worth the cost ;)

Cotton Carrier or Movo (both on Amazon) make a carrier vest the distributes the weight to both shoulders by using a stud that screws in the tripod mount of the camera and slides into a slot on the vest front. (My Movo also has a second carrier the fits on the waist for a second camera or a lens that has a tripod collar to mount the stud.)

No kidding. I always thought I wanted one, but never pulled the trigger because "they were expensive". Then my Dad asked for one for Christmas.

My wife was smart enough to order one for me after she saw me walking around the house "testing" my Dad's Christmas present before I gave it to him!

take a look at the spider pro camera holster and also the peak design straps and capture clips.. I love the holster as it gets the camera off your neck, out of the way but readily accessible.

I have one by optech that I love. Forms an x over my back and no weight on my neck. It was very inexpensive and easy to shoot and use while wearing it.
