I have an Artisan 810, have tried several times to print photos with it using the Epson Glossy Premium Photo Paper and Epision inks printing from Aperture, and more recently from Lightroom. The results were consistently horrible. Using Aperture I kept getting horizontal lines across the image (those lines did not appear on printer test prints or documents). Using LR, the ink was thick an runny and it ran together and bled outside the outlines making a gooey mess.
My friend, a very good artist, who makes spectacular prints on his specialized photo printer, said "those all in one printers don't do a good job with photos, forget using it". So I left it at that, for a while. But I'm stubborn and I found an article on Imaging Resource and they got good results with the 810 printing photos
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRINT/A810/A810.HTMSo my question is: are any UHHers using the Artisan 810 for photo printing, using a Mac, and how good are the results? Using a PC? How are the results?
I use Artisan 800 printing on Epson glossy paper with Epson cartridges with very good results.

I have an 800 also, and it does a great job. But I have gotten the lines before have you tried to run the head cleaner.
I have used the 810 for a few years with my PC and Windows 7 now 8. Great results. I use LR 4 and PE 11. It does not like off brand inks or paper. I've tried to cut costs with off brands and it coughs.

The Artisan series performs well for its cost, but I was never able to get good consistently good results with ICC profiles or any color space other than sRGB. On the Artisan, I let the printer manage colors on Epson paper with Epson ink. Veering off this narrow path risks muddy colors and dark prints, most particularly with Lightroom. It does better if I print through iPhoto or Photoshop.
With my Epson r3000 I can get consistently good results using any specialty papers that have profiles, though I only use Epson ink. I get the expected results whether printing from Lightroom, Photoshop or iPhoto.
The problem you describe sounds like something may be wrong in the ink distribution system though. I would have suspected incompatible ink or paper but you say that's not the case. Have you tried Epson tech support? Reinstalling driver?
You've received a couple of good suggestions. Also make sure that either the software OR the printer manages color, NOT both.
In my Artisan 1430, I let LR manage color and use the ICC profile for the specific Epson paper. You turn off color management in the Epson driver in the Advanced tab.
I get great prints, usually without a test print. But the 1430 is a wide carriage photo printer, not an all-in-one.
Thanks guys. Just knowing that others are having good results is helpful.
I looked into the driver issue, it's a Mac. Driver? I just plugged it in and it worked. LOL.
Epson support says use Apple software update, but software update doesn't show any updates pending. So I uninstalled the printer driver using an Epson utility then deleted the printer from the Apple SysPref Print Utilities window. Trying to add it back, only the EPSON032C25 is showing up to add, and a message "software for this printer isn't available form Apple Contact the printer manufacturer for support". I suppose a long time ago I just clicked "OK" and that's probably the problem.
But the right driver won't load. A software catch22. This seems like an Apple issue to me so Im going to call Apple support now.
Thanks for the help, I'll report back when I know more.

Did you have your printer hooked up with a cord and active/awake when you hit the Apple Update checker? I'd email Epson too. I hate the way they have the printer update built into the Apple system now. Sometimes the system does not properly read what you need, it has happened to me. Getting the right driver for that printer and system software is essential to solving this. What is your system? Are you on Yosemite?

I'm using an Early 2013 Retina MacBookPro running Yosemite, ver10.10.1.
I had been using the Printer via Bonjour with the printer connected to the wireless router. It shows up as EPSON023c25 when connected that way. I can print and scan documents and that's how I have been using it.
Today I disconnected the internet cable and hooked up the printer directly to the computer using USB. Under Add Printer I see Artisan 810 but when selected it says "software not available from Apple". I called Epson they say call Apple. So that's the next step.
Update: Problem solved.
I called Apple support, they were able to resolve the problem. The Artisan 810 was not showing up as available printer under add printer. Apple support found a note on the EPSON we site to resolve that problem (I had visited the Epson site, did not see that note, also called Epson they said "call Apple").
The solution involved Terminal and the following command:
softwareupdate --list
A line appeared indicating a printer driver update was available. Closed terminal then back to Add Printer and the Artisan 810 was there. It was available viaUSB and also Bonjour. Adding it, solved the problem. Tested, I get great looking photo prints from Lightroom!!
