Does anyone have any experience with the C-Loop Mount for camera straps?

Thank you.

Just another way to attach a strap to the tripod socket. And an expensive way at that. A cameras tripod socket was never designed to carry a camera's weight hanging from it so you take full responsibility for damages that occur from doing so.

I use a BlackRapid Cross Shot and absolutely love it. It gets my camera out of the way when I'm walking around, and let's me play with my kids without worrying about bashing my camera into their heads.

There are less expensive options similar, which I have tried, but the mount of the BlackRapid products is much better designed.

I don't doubt that, MT. I use a Black Rapid strap but I mount it to the strap lugs instead of the tripod mount. Last year both Nikon and Canon reps said clearly that the tripod mount is not designed for that and could fail.

But then Nikon made a "deal with the devil" when they decided to put the Nikon name on a Black Rapid strap (for $10 more) and reversed their position.

Do you suppose that they would now honor the warranty on the body if the tripod mount were to fail?

How did you mount it to the lugs and maintain the functionality? You've peaked my interest...

A picture would be more clear, but I don't have one.
You get rid of the screw thing that goes into the tripod mount, then hook the carabiner thingie into the keychain thingie on the left side that usually holds a neck strap. Then adjust the length of the Black Rapid strap so that when the camera is at my side I can reach down and grab the right side of the camera. Works for me.

I did the same thing, but put OpTech Adapt-Its on both lugs and added a second connector to the strap. It looks awkward with the strap running between the two lugs, but the weight of the connectors pull the strap out of the way when the camera is raised.

In all honesty, however, I have to admit that lately I've been using the tripod socket with the M-Plate Pro, which spreads the bottom plate pressure over a larger part of the bottom of the camera. There is a hand grip adapter which I intend to acquire to attach a safety tether. It should be noted that, when used on the bottom of my LUMIX or Canon SX1IS, there is little weight on the strap lug AND I prevent my cameras flopping around through judicious use of the strap stop clips.

The tripod socket is more than adequate to carry a body and hefty lens attached. And for those of us that are a bit on the paranoid side, Black Rapid makes a "Tether" strap that connects the tripod socket to one of the strap lugs too.

I use these as well on the left side of the camera for several years now. They are very strong and hold the camera in the manner intended. If I have a lens with a collar mounting (i.e., 70-200), I use that instead of the camera mount point.

Nikon is now selling Nikon branded Black Rapid sling straps with tripod mounts. Have they done something to improve the strength of their tripod sockets on recent models? The are using metal and carbon fiber inside many cameras now. Would you trust it with lenses below 150mm?

This keep coming up -- recently I started a thread asking for any concrete examples of this -- none came up! Perhaps with Nikon now selling these straps e-v-e-n-y-u-a-l-l-y this tale of broken cameras from the lug being used for straps may go away (however I wouldn't hang a long lens on a plastic body with the lug! :) )
