Graham Smith: I usually don't comment on landscape photos because usually they're same-old, same-old, but yours is gorgeous. The colors, the composition, no over-pp. The man facing the way our eyes would naturally look, from left to right. The red jacket in contrast with the subtle colors of nature. Wow.

Just call me Graham :-)

What a shot! Not only a great environment pic .. the little girl surrounded by the adult legs .. love it! .. but the expression and body language ... a picture is worth a 1000 words when it's done well.

Thank you so much for commenting. Glad you noticed the adult legs as well. Thought it added to the sense of place.

All the people photos I have are environmental I think, the only posed ones I take are the annual Christmas card photos and the occasional passport photo. (I do own a flash but could not tell you where it is) The question is how much environment is in there and how much does it say about the image.

Nightski: Great photo - composition, colors, lighting. Not an easy photo to take.

minniev: Both your photos are outstanding! The composition and colors, clarity, expressions.

Nightski: Your doe photo is great! Can really get the feeling that you were trying to sneak up on this doe (enhanced by the tall grass) and her sharp ears caught you. Great expression! Great catch!

There were three. I didn't sneak up. I stumbled upon their bedding down place. They were up in a second and the other two pranced across the river .. this one froze. After she left I walked in and I could see all the imprints in the tall grass that told me they had been laying down there. It was quite trampled down. Just a lucky moment!

In contrast to actions shots, I'm submitting these. Some people don't like the headless Mom. I don't mind because I wanted to concentrate on the daughter's face. Some people didn't like the soft focus. Would be interested in your reactions.
