I am thinking of taking a photographic holiday in the Camargue

I am thinking of taking a photographic holiday in the Camargue, South of France to photograph the wild white horses, black bulls and flamingos. Has anyone here been there and done that? A few tours appear on Google and obviously I could pick one of those but I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has done it and has recommendations.

Many thanks, Bob

Pack Polariser, lens shade and a hat. The light there is intense - hence Picasso etc

Try Google earth for the area and see what others have uploaded pictures of and make a note of their locations. It is a really good source of inspiration/aspiration now.

Be ready for the Wind 5 days out of 7.....I think its heat related so suggest early rising...

never been but want to go

Think you will have fun

Bear in mind that the french do not like photographers ! It is HOT, and sometimes very wet; the scenery is good, the water is difficult to get around to actually photograph, mainly because a lot of it is owned; Go when the birds arew mating- the Flamingos are spectacular. I think you would be better off hiring a vehicle and choosing your site to photograph. Tours are expensive, and not all that good. Hope this helps a little. I went out there 4 years on the trot !

Call my friend Bobbie Goodrich in Santa Fe. She's a real photographic artist and arranges a great Camargue workshop.

Check out her web site for images and schedule. I know one is coming up in 2015.

I love the work of Bobbie Goodrich!
I would imagine that to be a wonderful tour. What a great vacation that would be.

Those Chris Walt images are inspiring, as well.

I have a trip like that on my Bucket List and thanks for the recommendation.
This summer I will be photographing bears in Alaska with Robert O'Toole. Next year maybe horses in Camargue. I like getting wet! Life will be good.
