Check into this forum every day and especially the links. Tons of educational info here that will get you started on the best foot. Don't be afraid to ask this group anything. You'll occasionally get a terse reply from some, just ignore that and move on. Don't ever give up

Is the D90 actually discontinued? Here in Thailand this camera is sold as a current model. All of the Nikon authorized shops have plenty of them in stock. I don't recall Nikon ever stating that they are no longer producing this model.

While the D90 is officially discontinued, I notice a few local stores still have new inventory of this great camera on sale.

Get a copy of "Mastering the Nikon D90" by Darrell Young
His books follow the manual and use it as reference, but goes into more detail with illustrations and thorough explanations.

Assuming you mean the D90, I've had one for several years. I used it for 2-3 years before I found Darrell Youngs book Mastering the Nikon D90. I found so much good information in that book in an easy to understand format that it completely transformed my use of the camera. Most of the information is in the official manual in good English. But like so many manuals it was written by people who can't communicate in any language.
I've been in photography for over 60 years and have used Nikons, Canons, Pentax, Minolta, Mamiya, Rollieflex and others. The D90 may not be as fancy as some newer models, but it is a game changer. However, it really takes some study to get the best from it.
David Busch also has a similar book out. I just happened to find Young's first.
