Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about Sony Mirrorless cameras. I'm looking to upgrade to either a A-6000, or an A7.

Although I'm a Nikon man, I've heard glowing reports on both of those.

The A6000 is an mid-level camera with quite a few professional specifications.

The A7 is a pro-quality camera all the way.

Both have outstanding image quality, but the A7 is full frame and has a superior user interface.

The A7 is the least expensive, smallest Full Frame body available. It also has one of the highest scores of all cameras in terms of image quality. The A6000 can be had for about 1/2.5 the price however.

Either way, you would be getting a VERY high quality camera.

I handled one but never used it. I didn't like the EVF(electronic viewfinder) as much as a DSLR's optical viewfinder (OVF). It was small and light, but once you put a lens on it that's bigger than the kit lens, it's no longer all that small, and it can become unbalanced. I much prefer a small DSLR like a Nikon D3300 or Canon SL-1.

That's just how I feel. Others love it and you may too. I suggest going to a store where you can handle it and a couple of DSLR and mirrorless compacts. Then you can decide for yourself.

I have an NEX 6 and an a7R, APS-C and full-frame, in that order. I am pleased with both. Note that the full-frame lenses are quite expensive and that Sony did not have much selection in full-frame lenses for the a7R last time I looked. Sony has a large assortment of lenses for their APS-C sensor mirrorless cameras at prices which I felt were reasonable. I am pleased with the performance of both of those cameras. If I had it to do over, I would probably not buy the a7R, just because the lenses are so expensive and of limited variety. But, perhaps with time, I will acquire more lenses for it and be fully happy.

I bought one of those A7R few weeks ago and really love it! Bought it as it is the only digital camera body (the whole A7 lineup) that I can use properly with my collection of old and new "everything manual" lenses from Nikon, Konica, Pentacon, Canon, Samyang, Sigma, Petzval etc. And this works great! I like all my other gear as well but this camera has something no other cameras have and that makes it a very interesting one.

The design of the A7 lineup makes space for adapters for all kind of quality lenses you can get for next to nothing to use with this camera if you do not already own them. And the focus peaking makes it easy to use them and get good results.

I have the A7r and the Sony/Zeiss FE24-70 F4 lens and I am very happy with it. I bought it for the smaller size, less weight than my SLRs and FF high resolution files. I also got the Metabones adapter so I can also use all my Canon FF and APSC lenses until I decide what other Sony or Zeiss lenses I might add. For ultra wide shots I am using my Canon EF-S 10-22 and for longer reach I am using my Canon EF 70-200L F2.8 IS and EF 70-300 IS lenses. All lenses function with auto-focus, aperture control and IS, although auto-focus is slow which doesn't bother me because I don't shoot action stuff. The longer Canon lenses are a bit awkward on the small Sony body due to size and weight but I plan on eventually adding more Sony FE lenses.

Santa brought me the a6000. I normally shoot Nikon. Love it so far. I will use it as a back-up, and all purpose travel camera. Professional quality. The a7II is getting excellent reviews. I know a few professional wedding photogs who have shot weddings with the a6000 and love it. I say go for it. If you decide on any of the Sony mirrowless cameras, you will not be sorry.

Although I shoot Nikon because I always have been satisfied with their equipment, you can't go wrong with Sony. I understand their mirror less cameras are excellent choices.

I love my A7. I use the Zeiss EF 35 and Zeiss EF 55. The results are fantastic. I also tried the A6000 for a few days. Great images (though not as good as the A7's, even with the same lenses). Fast autofocus. But, the A6000 wasn't as fun to use for some reason.

Apart from the fact that the A7 feels nicer in the hand (than the A6000, IMO), one of the main things may be that the A6000 view finder is lower resolution than the A7's. It's hard to get a good sense of what you are capturing. So, while I said that the A6000 captures aren't quite as good as the A7's, they are still quite good, but this isn't apparent until you get them onto the computer.

With faster autofocus than the A7, IBIS, and better ergonomics, I would love to get an A7II, but as the sensor is the same as the A7 (and the A7 is fantastic), I can't really justify the additional expense. I'll stick with my A7 until Sony comes out with either an A7SII with 24 MPs and IBIS or an A7RII with phase-detect AF and IBIS.

The only other camera that tempts me is the Fuji X-T1: http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/x/fujifilm_x_t1/.

Both are great cameras in their price ranges. However, lens selection is a bit sparse, especially for the A7, so make sure they have the lens selection you want in the future before investing in the body.

This is a good point. However, three of Sony's full frame lenses are among the best on the market, with the Zeiss FE 55 described by DxO mark as the "second best lens" they've ever tested. The Zeiss FE 35 is also brilliant (though not quite as good as the FE 55). The FE 70-300 is among the best in its class, and while the Zeiss FE 16-35 and Zeiss FE 24-70 don't do as well on paper as the other lenses in the Sony FE line-up, users really seem to like them--a lot. On top of this, Sony seems to be hitting the targets on its road map. On the other hand, if you wanted to spend less and go for only the 28-78 kit lens, a lot of people (on forums) really like the kit lens and say that, for the price, it compares very favorably to the Zeiss. You can get the camera and lens for less $1400, which is crazy inexpensive for a full-frame camera that is this good: http://www.abesofmaine.com/item.do?item=SNA7K2870&id=SNA7K2870&l=PLA&gclid=Cj0KEQiAq_SkBRC3jLvJ1IPt2eIBEiQASUZy1wEz6F1nQDAkhKUdemIPo_X7CeoJzp4AytVLlkU1MTEaAmwN8P8HAQ

Having said that, there are some very nice crop lenses available for the A6000 that cost quite a bit less, especially used, than the lenses for the A7. I had a Nex 5N, and I was delighted with the Sony 35 1.8 and the 50 1.8. Pros seem to really like the Zeiss 24 1.8. Sony also has a couple of top-notch zoom lenses, a Zeiss and one branded as only a Sony.

And remember the Sony lenses are Minoltaish.
