I am here in Yuma AZ for another month. I have seen the prison and the conservation gardens. I am looking for some photo ops. Any ideas?

Just west into CA is the Joshua Tree NM. It's not wonderful, but the Joshua trees are. Actually, if you drive through the park and go to the town of Joshua Tree, you can find better pictures of the tree. Can't remember when they bloom.

Drive north along the river. It's beautiful.

I lived there for two years and ran into the same problem. Sometimes you can find interesting farms, rows of cotton, etc. Also there is a wash out there somewhere that is kinda cool but you'd have to ask some of the youngsters to tell you where to go. There are some sand dunes that are kinda neat too by the Proving grounds off Highway 95, but you have to take washboard roads to get there as I recall.

Isn't this the time of year the snowbirds show up? There has to be photo ops with that group somewhere.

You do the right things and BIF will take on a new definition when shooting snowbirds.

I lived 60 of my 66 years on the Jersey Shore and we called the summer people from NYC, Philadelphia and northern NJ bennies. This year I am a snowbird... now I am getting the looks... 🐮 I just pictured Yuma, although a great place, a little more photo friendly. But I read some where years ago 80% of the best photos are within 2 miles from where I am.

I've wintered in Arizona a few times in our RV.

Two years ago I got a shot of the big desert moon resting on a ridge with a big cactus and an RV in the the foreground. I was in Quartzsite then. Wandering around in the open camping areas, the shopping stalls and other stores should yield some surprises. I suspect this year the sky will be full of personal flying cameras (sometimes called drones).

The best bird shot I've have ever taken was at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum near Tucson. It is truely worth a visit and is near the truly gorgeous Saguaro National Park.

If you make your way to the Anza Borrego Desert State Park there are a lot of landscape opportunities. It is huge, mountainous and full of very old cactus with a few critters. Parts of the Salton Sea area are worth of camera work.

It used to be that the Yuma Proving Ground was were they trained para troopers. There were some open house type days and the skies filled with jumpers.

Up toward Parker there are some dramatic river and landscape combinations.

Lake Havasu is loaded with aging and skilled hot rodders. Three of my favorite pictures on my wall are cars I took at car shows. The artistry invested in the body and paint work is over the top. Every Thursday night McCulloch Blvd fills with amazing cars. I shot a video one evening and the audio track is full of engine and people sounds.

No photo suggestions but I've got a great joke about Yuma and how it got it's name.

Good Morning. If you are an adventuresome person you might want to consider a drive over to the South end of the Sulton Sea to the town of Niland, my wife said " looks like the end of the earth" Why go?? Out of there is a place caled Slab City. It got its name because in the 2nd World War General Patton trained his desert troops there. When they left they took everyting except the concrete slabs of the buildings. Boring so far?? Later very unusual groups of people started moving in. All kinds of vehicles and life styles. One gentelman took it upon himself to beautify the area. ?? There was small mountain and he decided to paint it. Over the years he put hundrededs of gal. of paint on it what ever colors he could scrounge. Look it up. Another area is Glamis. In Calif. It is the dune buggy capital of the world. Thousand of people and vehicles on a weekend action shots

The sand dunes are just west of Yuma... Early morning or late afternoon is best. Every day is different there!. It may be hard to find a good vantage point, tho. Drive north on 95... there are some preserves along the river for wildlife (birds). Joshua Tree NF is off I-10... you'd have to drive north on 95 anyway to get there. Happy shooting!

Just north of Yuma is Bard, CA. There is an old museum with 50 Model T's and all kinds of antiques. He charger $7 to get in, but I spent two hours and took over 100 photos. I don't remember the name, but Bard is so small you can't miss it.

You could easily check out Tombstone, AZ. It is a fun place with lots of photo ops. When I have visited that area the best photos I saw were not necessarily the landscape photos but the smaller photo opportunities within the landscape, close up photos of flowers, cactus needles, mountains and shadows, things of that nature.
