So anything out of that long list that would really matter W/O merely being bells and whistles would be 3 that I personally would be interested in are #1. more mega pixels (24), #2. removal of the anti aliasing filter which is still under debate if it's a good move or not---most folks wouldn't notice that the D7000 has it #3. a lock on the shooting dial which many think is the best thing since photography was invented.....lol!! I have 2 D7000s and have NEVER had that dial move on me!! As far as oil spots I think the poster was thinking of the D600---never heard of that problem with either of the cameras we're talking about. I have 24,000 clicks on one camera and 110,000 clicks on the other and never so much as even an error message........

You forgot the biggie, the focusing system. One of Nikons best! Also in camera HDR, both very important to me and most folks. I also have never had any oil spots, I was getting a lot of dust on the D7000 sensor from changing lenses, that was the reason for the D7100 (second body). No problem since!

Here is a Snapsort comparison that lists differences between these models.... It's up to the purchaser to decide what is important to themselves...

I've read numerous comparisons and I'm curious as to what features constitute "...a lot more than a few more mega.."

This is not meant to be argumentative, but a serious question because I have considered upgrading. The low pass filter point doesn't mean much to amateur me. The dollar factor just didn't do it for me and I have no qualms regarding "worthwhile expenditures."

Hello. I have the D7000 and I have had no problems with it whatsoever after 2 years, I believe. Good luck with your choice, though.
Just don't pick a Canon. ;) JUST TEASING, FOLKS. :)

Go with the D7100. However if you also want a battery grip the D7100 uses a different grip.
The D7000 has bad back focus. Most of the time it can be adjusted in AF fine tune.
My D7100 has very minor back focus.
Also the metering is very close to "0". My D7000 requires +4 matrix +3 center & +2 spot metering.
Don't waste your time with the D7000.
I am surprised Nikon still offers the D7000. It is the camera that should be on sale.
The D7200 will be offered next year, but why Nikon still offers the D7000 at no discount does not make sense???

Amazon is selling the 7100 for $896 with free shipping. I am ordering one, definitely worth the difference, especially with free shipping to me here in Alaska (which some companies don't consider part of the USA!!!).

You are comparing a severely discounted D7000 with a full price D7100. If you shop carefully, you can find the D7100 for as little as $800, which suddenly makes it very competitive for what it is...

Is the camera/lens at BestBuy a USA or grey market? Amazon is selling the US lens for $497. Based on that, I wonder.

Well, the camera is a couple of models outdated & a Google seller (the Nikon store) sells that lens (refurbished) on their website for $300....I'd think it was USA market, not Grey but likely a refurb unit.... Call them & ask....

I have both. You would be very happy with either. Dollar for dollar, the biggest difference is pixel count. It depends on how much you crop, and how large you print. Only you can decide that.

I can’t imagine that Best Buy, or any authorized US dealer, would be selling “grey market” product.

If you think the biggest difference between these two cameras is just "pixel count", I doubt you have both (or maybe even either). The D7100 is a major upgrade.

Someone considering these should go to one of the online review sites (I like DPREVIEW), and look at the side by side comparison of specs. That is the best way to compare, rather than to read statements such as this.

(If I am wrong and you DO have both, I apologize for that...But I do not apologize for the fact that you have obviously not used them much to think that the difference is something so trivial...The D7100 is probably the best DX DSLR to ever be produced. It deserves more respect than that)

I tend to agree with you George, I do have both, and like you say, the D7100 is not a slight upgrade, it is a whole different animal. I love the D7000, but I seldom shoot with it anymore. I have a Df, and the D7100 because of it's wonderful focus system is an ideal camera for BIF, aircraft, sports, like motorcycle racing. A kick butt camera!!

Will I take better pictures with a7100 than my 7000. My pictures don't even compare to Treepusher's CellPhone picture of his cat. Where and does it ever stop? Running out of time and money.
