I would be born in 19 days after Pearl Harbor... Into a world at war.

I recall driving from Hamilton, Ont. back to my Grandparent's home in Woodstock in my grandfather's New Plymouth. It had one of those new "Bill Lear" super heterodyne car radios. The Air was full of the attack and my 6 year old imagination had me lying on the front seat floor expecting the Japanese to have ---or soon would---attack Woodstock!

Not born yet.

I was 14 at the time. But right now I don't remember too much about that day except I wondered just where Pearl Harbor was. Soon after I became a Messenger for the local Civilian Defense and went to meetings and practice. I was in Los Angeles at the time, and one night all the anti aircraft batteries started firing and, just my luck, I would have to sleep through the whole exciting event.

"...I wondered just where Pearl Harbor was."

As did most of the rest of the populace, unless they were in or had relatives in the Pacific Navy.

I was 11 years old when the news came over the radio. My Uncle was stationed there at the time. His wife had given birth to their baby girl on the 6th. The girl could never walk and died at 9 years old.

My father landed in the Dominican Republic on Pearl Harbor Day, escaping from Germany two days before the border closed for Jews.

The Évian Conference, convened July 1938 to respond to the increasing numbers of Jews fleeing persecution, resulted in the failure of 32 countries and 39 private organizations and some 24 voluntary organizations - following the examples of the U.S. and Britain - to accept refugees. As a result, Jews had no escape and were subjected to Hitler's "Final Solution." The only country which accepted a large number of Jews was the Dominican Republic. There are various explanations why Trujillo, a mass murderer himself, did this.

In any case, I associate Dec. 7th, 1941, not only as a day that will "live in infamy" but also as the day of the rebirth of my family.

I can not remember. I was only a few days away from being 3 years old. My family was living at 978 Dewey St., Atlanta, GA. No zip code in those days. Sure was a long time ago.

In utero. I was born in February 1942. But I very easily remember where I was.

I was seven years old flying from Chicago to Detroit. Funny you should mention Bill Lear, I went to work for him in in 1961. I was a AJB3 Loft Bombing/Central Reference System Factory Representative (F-105, F-4, & F106).
