Moonburgers? Served straight from the grill in Moonshine, IL, population 2. But on a busy day the visitors can number in the hundreds. And burgers are the attraction to this non-descript store/restaurant at a county crossroad in Illinois farmland. Helen and Roy Tuttle live above the store. Visitors have come from all 50 states and some foreign countries. Countless stories have been published in newspapers and magazines and they have been on world wide TV news. Burgers are cooked on a grill and served on a stove lid covered with waxed paper. Once a year a huge cycle club from Chicago make a ride to Moonshine. Burgers sold on those days number greater than 1100. You place your order and then add your fixins from a table when your name is called. No credit cards, you pay on the honor system. The place is very simple, no tables, only benches and church pews. Picnic tables outside and no inside rest rooms.
So for an experience, find Moonshine IL and try a moonburger or cheeseburger. I must warn you, the grill closes sharply at 12:30. Open Mon thru Sat. but perhaps a call first would be advisable. 1-618/569-9200

Best hamburgers in the US!!!! The annual Moonshine Run (motorcycles) is coming up next month, and we'll both (wife and I) be there! I can taste them now. Mmmmmm, Mmmmmm, Mmmmmm. I've known the owners since I was pretty young. Good Folks!

Give it a go. Not easy to find but worth the effort. They can give you directions in Martinsville.

Glad for your testimony . Very unique place in the middle of nowhere.
Wonderful shots of "hometown" America. I agree, Sitty Hall is great. I guess that's where most of the politicians can be found. HaHaHa...

No apple pie, but you can bring your own. It is a different touch of America that many people never see.

Politicians are not allowed there, they (politicians) don't believe in the honor system.
Is this a Moonburger, or what?
