Yes, of course, if I enter that business model knowingly and willingly, understanding that Google makes dough off my photographic output under the guise of helping me and does so without compensation for its business use of my product. I doubt this equation involves a fair exchange. In any event, I do not agree with it or accept it. Others may do as they please in this regard.

Thanks, but if I have anything to say, I will never upload my photos to Google Maps for contributing to its business model without compensation.

I want a standalone GPS program that has no upload link to Google Maps for Google to use my photos free of charge.

You probably didn't understand what I explained. The program is a stand alone one. You don't upload your images to Google. It only uses Google maps to show you where the image was taken. You can upload or send your images to google if you would like some other way. LR doesn't do that. But that is your choice. What good is writing it down if you don't know where it is on a map anyway? Just keyword the images for Yellowstone if you don't want accuracy. I can guarantee you that Google is not downloading 2000 raw images in the 10 seconds it takes to write the metadata onto the files. There are other gps programs out there, but they are all using the same information for the plotting.

Agree: "You probably didn't understand what I explained."

May I please ask you to name the device you use for data logging and the GPS program for tagging your pictures?

You seem to use a method that I would like to try.

Thanks.

Happy Holidays.

Google makes money by selling information. There are some of us who want to be in control of where info about us goes, and when Google "helps" you, you are exchanging info about you for that help and you have absolutely no influence on what they do with that info.

I call them moochers in disguise, although for a business octopus like Google, I call its unpaid use of the work product of photographers more akin to stealing by another name, something like opening the door for donations when wealthy in order to foster more wealth for oneself on the back of others.

As one example, I bought a GPS unit from Canon which came with software for linking logged GPS data to photographs. In the fine print, obscurely worded, lay a disclaimer of sorts notifying the user his or her photographs would automatically become linked to Google Maps. I did not see an opt-out choice for this linkage. I resent this sneaky approach attempting to grab the work of others for Google use and profit minus any compensation to the photographer. No thanks.

I have always used a notebook, something small enough for the pocket.
I create a folder in my SD card and save to it
I record the file number/ pic number on camera after the shot.
and make my notes.
when I dl the photos, i have a log to follow.
When the card is full or when you upload to puter, just make another folder with a unique name for that day.

Hope this helps.
This was a way i used whern photographing a large group of people individually.

A. I keep a 4x6 spiral notebook on me or in the bag when I bring the camera. Each location has a date and a page with some notes. I also shoot street or park or location names.

B. I usually have my laptop on longer trips and transfer my SD files at the hotel each night; I open a folder named with the date and a short description. This will be reviewed right then or at home at a later date.

Oh yeah... a pen or two.
