I do a lot of newborn photography. For the most part, I get it right on camera. But every so often, I want to change out the background, and was wondering if anyone knows of a place a I can get blankets or walls or floors as background images to edit in.

I found some places that sell furniture as digital props, but none that I like the blanket images, of have a good selection of walls or other looks people tend to like in infant shoots.

I normally take an image in the beginning I like, for editing in later if needed. But I had a bad day on a recent shoot, good photos but a lot of backgrounds are a bit gross, and can't find anything I like.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Joanna Fabrics or some other fabric store for a few yards of materials.

I wonder if a source like Colonial Williamsburg has a fabric store where you might obtain unusual samples or bolt-ends - silks, brocades, even boldly colored cottons - textures and colors you won't find on department store shelves. Might be worth making a few inquiries. Another place for really different fabrics might be the costume shops of some of the great old theaters. Just a thought.

I tip only when a service is rendered. None has been so, no tip.

This by the way is a reaction to the vagueness of the title. Folks need to be descriptive in their title and this one is in par with: Question Help and the like.

(love the Greek char use by the way).

Stupid word games! So you didn't like the title of the thread. Neither did I. We have all been moaning and groaning about that for quite a while. BUT the OP did give a good explanation of her needs, which you, as usual, chose to ignore. Instead you answered with a completely senseless comment about her ability, about which, I'm sure, you know nothing. Now Admin has gotten rid of JR1 (Kourtesy Kop), you show up as a ghost of horrors past (JR1/2, The Title Torquemada, the Subject Sheriff).

Ron, you're smart enough that, if you put your brain in forward gear, you could be a valuable asset to this forum, but you choose to be the Titular Troll. Give us all a break, please. Help us make this a better forum. Thank you!

MacroChick, my suggestion would be to always take your camera with your wherever you go (but you already do that, don't you?).
Then, starting now! Keep your eyes open for anything you see that would make a suitable background for the kind of photos you take. Ask your friends if they have any flannelette or wool baby blankets; if they do, drape them and take photos of them. Your friends will think you're nuts but who cares....
You'll need to take these photos at about the same distance you take the babies' photos.
Browsing the scrapbooking websites may net you some background material as well, just be aware that they are generally flat backgrounds, not at all nicely draped.
Besides blankets, also think of old-fashioned (crochet) bedspreads, overstuffed chairs, dog pillows - I believe that's the kind of thing he means when my son tells me "to think outside the box."

A quick search yielded the following:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/browse/Background-Materials-Equipment/ci/1175/N/4037060750

and

http://www.backdropoutlet.com/

The second seems to have a lot of baby oriented product.

PS You should have included more in the title like

"Any tips on backgrounds for shooting babies?"

And even that would have gotten you some flack, but it would be better natured ribbing.

Thank you. I was more looking for a backup place to get digital images for editing.

It turns out for the one I was editing last night, I did have a backdrop shot, which I was able to use.

I am thinking though, why not take a bunch of stock photos and start selling them, or keeping them for in case I need them later.

I currently go to the fabric store and buy the bolt ends for like 5 cents a yard; And I have had good luck recently with Ikea. Getting nice blankets for backdrops.

I personally tend to use one of the baby's blankets they were given, as it is sentimental. But like in this case, occasionally it is too small.

The idea of a good title are simple:
Interest someone to read it in the first place and find the right folks to answer the question however well it is asked.

If everyone reacted to these vague titles they would be quickly be a thing of the past. To call me a 'titular troll' just does not cut the mustard. If the ostrich intervened over this I would not be mentioning anything but he does not despite that it is in his own instructions. Something few take the time to read anyway.
