Typical Liberal Democrat talking in circles while not making sense and with an attention span so short they can't even make it through a post to get the point being made. I didn't say today's workers have to start on a farm, but of course you don't have a way of realizing the concept of climbing the success ladder of life instead of shortening the ladder so you're at a high rung immediately with little to no effort, experience, or education.

And welcome to the 21st century yourself where they have newfangled things called city buses (and even sometimes subways) to get to McDonalds or Burger King if they don't have their own transportation.

When teens at McDonald's are making $15 an hour, that's also when I stop patronizing places where know-nothing brain-dead employees make as much as I do in my skill-intensive occupations.

Tell that to the folks in Detroit who haven't had reliable bus service for years. I know some people there who have to take 3 buses to get to their jobs and, in order not to arrive late at those great paying jobs, leave home 2-3 hours before work. Same routine to get home in the evening.

Seems there's no end to the number of people who have no concept of the fact that many of the "have-nots" are victims of circumstances that truly are beyond their control. But then I understand that it's easier to simply dismiss that entire population as lazy, good for nothing, slackers than it is to attempt to understand the socioeconomic factors involved.

If $25.00/hr. will solve all the embarrassing social problems of a permanent underclass why stop there? Clearly your cashier should be making as much as the shopkeeper and he should be charging $150.00 or more for the burger to cover his payroll. Who comes up with these absurd mandates anyway?

If we took all the money wasted on the WAR ON POVERTY, we could give them all $25 and they wouldn't have to go to work............ Oh, I forgot, that's what welfare/food stamps are for.

I hope I'm not speaking out of turn but......I don't believe ANYONE on this thread is suggesting that raising the minimum wage is going to "solve the worlds problems."

The original poster suggested that there was a correlation between bad service and earing the minimum wage and that was reason for not increasing the minimum wage.

However, I would also hope that noone here believes that the minimum wage should have remained at $1/hour (as it must have been at some time in the past).

At some point, the minimum wage must increase.

It seems that the discussion has moved on to...how much and in what timeframe.

To suggest that our economy will crumble if/when the minimum wage is increased, is just being unrealistic. It didn't happen with previous minimum wage increases. Why should it happen today?

If it was just about minimum wage, how do you explain, at the city level, Detroit ?

Possibly, Motown no longer being "Mo"town is/was a disaster and then on top of that, the GFC really sank the boot in... explains it.

Having said that I reckon the biggest contributing factor to the shit sandwich that the USA (and most of Europe) had to take a bite of, is, irresponsible lending/borrowing... ie getting into too much debt; debt that became impossible to honour.

It's not "just" about minimum wage. Detroit is the victim of management that wouldn't think further than quarterly profits, and labor thinking themselves invincible. They both also forgot that the American consumer has no nationalistic loyalty. While the U.S. Auto Industry was struggling Americans put their flag bumper stickers onto Hyundais and Kias. Still today, with all of its problems, Detroit is heaven compared to Sri Lanka, Bangla Desh and the cities of Mexico.

OH&S... Occupational Health And Safety... Government mandated safety
measures down here to protect workers (often from themselves) from unsafe work practices. For example employers must erect a parapet around the roof of a single level residence if someone is working on the roof or have workers wear a harness and a lanyard that is anchored to the roof, or face heavy fines.

Australias... not plural but possessive. That should be apparent from the sentence "Australias" was used in. Either you could not
work that out for yourself or you are sarcastic... The fact is, you are sarcastic, because I know, you know there is only one Australia.
Therefore what you wrote:
" Thank you for the insult though. blah blah blah. I will strive to maintain my composure and not sling one back at you. is... BS... or hot air... possibly one could even say, hypocrisy... take your pick.

I would not be surprised if the check out chick at Maccas had your number bud, and gave you shit service intentionally. After reading
all you have written I would have done the same thing in her position.

LOL

HAHAHA! You read right through me! I have been called the king of sarcasm so sometimes I just can't stop myself from letting it fly. For that I apologize. I see that we are at an impasse regarding this topic so I'm going to sign off with a very heartfelt GOD BLESS YOU! If that offends you then I suggest you take it up with Him!

Let's close this can of worms!

You need to bless the girl/woman that served you at Maccas too.

You should probably put your third 2 liter mug of Tooheys New down and try to vaguely remember there are cultural differences between here and there when throwing abbreviations around - instead of lashing out with no manners at someone who is trying to be civil and not argue.

I personally have never seen Global Financial Crisis abbreviated. The words must be used far more often in your country than here to require abbreviation.

McDonald's is called Micky D's or Mac's here. I've never seen Maccas which isn't really an abbreviation of anything I can think of - certainly not McDonald's Fast Food.

Occupational Safety and Health is OSHA here so OH&S doesn't make sense to us either.

Just because you know what's going on in your head doesn't mean we do nor that we want to.

The "checkout chick" at Mickey D's has a responsibility to interact with customers in a manner that is consistent with her training manual that she is supposed to memorize to avoid being fired. Checkout people are expected to smile and endure a lot of different personalities of all age groups while not taking things personally while actually listening to the customer and doing their jobs efficiently. They can think we are all just sheep eating globs of unhealthy lard with assholes for faces in their minds but their job is to act like you are the one and only special person in their life when you are standing face to face with them. You're the customer and you're always right, they are to treat you with respect because you and not McDonald's are paying them to be there, and they have no right as a front line public contact of an international corporation to treat you, the customer, in any manner other than the best possible to maximize corporate sales.

The "chick" should be at least reprimanded if not fired, not given a pay increase of 100% for being worthless.

You seem to think I had an issue with a poster not knowing the meaning of GFC, OH&S or Maccas? If you do, you are
incorrect... so of course when the matters were queried I spelled out the meanings. If you do have an issue with that, that's your problem.

Also, I googled GFC; The very first listing was Wikapedia... and low and behold Wikapedia (A US site I believe) has Global Financial Crisis as its first definition for GFC.

As for Maccas; the subject was Mc Donalds. It's not that much of an intellectual leap to connect the dots is it? I googled "Maccas" too and the
first listing was... you guessed it... Mc Donalds Corporate site.

As for Occupational Safety And Health v Occupational Health And Safety..
you're not serious are you?

I tasted Tooheys about 30 years ago and the first thought that came into my head was "Ptooheys" and have not touched it since.

I know that a litre is spelled "liter" in the US, and is what you may call
a cultural difference, and God bless America and I mean that, but bloody well get with the program... "Liter" and the rest of your miss spelling sucks."Meter" is not a measure of distance even if your cockamamy Websters dictionary says it is... A Metre is a measure of distance... A "Meter" is a gauge that measures... like a volt meter or a flow meter.

The language you, I and the Brits speak is English, so use an English dictionary... The Oxford for example... and we'd all be on the same page.

You should not have got me started :hunf:

I don't live in your country, nor Britain, nor Ireland, nor any other old school English speaking antiquated country. Our spellings and abbreviations are ours, and yours are yours. Girls are not birds here and vacuum tubes are not valves either. Get with the new age and try spelling cockamamy as cockamamie which is actually correct. And miss spelling is actually misspelling if you want to get with the program. I was a writer and editor for 13 years and don't misspell anything of the American English language unless I'm too tired at 3 a.m. to care.
