I use a Nikon 200mm Macro on my D7100, sometimes in conjunction with one or more Kenko auto extension tubes.
However this lens is not cheap, but I feel it worth every dollar I paid.

Just a few images taken with this lens.

You got a deal. I paid $400 as did a fellow photographer. I also have a 85mm macro that I use on the D7000. It is light, has auto focus and is nice to carry around in the flower garden. Highly recommended.

Butterflies, flowers. jewelry. I have to be very close to the subject, which I don't like.

I rarely, if ever, recommend anything shorter than 90 to 105mm. Anything shorter presents it's own set of challenges, especially lighting.

The "True Macro" section might be a better place to look if you are waiting to learn from people that shoot True Macro almost daily. You do get some good answers here and some that are not so good :|

Well then your going to need the Nikon 200mm. I think its MFD is 18 inch's or so. This was with a D7100 200mm and SB910. You mite have to break 2 or 3 banks...lol
