I've been running a G15 for the last few years and before that , a G12. The G15 is very very good in low light for natural light photoing.
My only grip about the G cameras I've had is the lens scratched pretty easy on both of them. I guess bouncing around in my tank bag during my bike trips is what caused it. I was just putting it down in the bag with the lens down ( even though camera off and lens shield activated ). Now I put it in there bottom down and using a hood.
Last I checked, for the Ex G12, Canon wants near 300 bucks to replace the lens. ;-O( .
Other than that, it's my go to camera.
achesly: Thanks for the come back. Thought they come with lens cap. Have a very old Olympus Camedia C-5050ZOOM and has lens protector. At times I forget to take it off and lens will not come out. Got it in 2002. Also use a Canon EOS 40D with multiple lens. Good advice. Will make sure I keep body facing down. Have a good day on the bike. Fred A
No cap for the lens, It's an auto close little multi part sliding shield that is very flimsy and, apparently, can be pressed back against the lens. Only way I could see the lens on both cameras getting scratches. I carried a couple old Minolta Dimage z 3 and 6 for many trips and many times had to dump the camera in the tank bags without the lens cover on. Never had a mark on them. But, I always have a small towel where the camera gets dumped.

Ditto on the lens cover. I religiously use the following: MegaGear Neoprene Camera Case Bag for Canon G16 (Amazon)
achesley: Maybe I will keep camera in a heavy duty Ziplock freezer baggy to help prevent scratches. Thank you the advise on the scratch issue. Fred A
redfox: Will definitely look into the Megagear case bag. Have to fit just the G16, spare batteries and flash in it. Thanks again. Fred A
Have Canon G16 and some other parts. Ordered from B&H in NYC. Have used them before as well as others. Ordered late in afternoon and received 10:AM the next day with no shipping charge. Only problem I see so far, is that it's smaller then I thought it would be. But then again, that is what I was looking for. Battery charging and will try out. Still have my EOS 40D always ready with all it's lenses. Thanks for all your comments out there.

Still plan on using a flash with the G16? Another suggestion for a case is a OpTech D-Mini.
47greyfox: Will look up in AM Monday. The 430EX is kind of large for the G16. Thought G16 would be a little larger

The G16 manual lists all the Speedlites as being usable with the camera. Personally, I've never used one with mine. I attached both a 380ex and a 420ex on it tonight and wasn't real comfortable with either even though I doubt there'd be a problem. I would hesitate to go any larger than a 270ex or a 320ex.
47 greyfox: Received your message. Thank you for the quick response. I will look into the 380EX and 270EX flash. Agree that there will be very few times needed but you never know. Can always go to my 40D in that situation. Have a great day and Thanksgiving. Always good to see your feedback. Fred A
