We have one we call kitty. Comes every evening and sits on this barrel waiting for my husband to bring out some cat food.

North Americas only marsupial I believe . Animals are not nasty ...often put on defensive mode which is misinterpreted . Two live under my shed and I have had no nasty experiences with them . Very nice shots ...great color on this one ...mine are mostly grey and black and white .

Thanks, Hando Rei. Yes, aren't those pink accents just ever so fashionable? :D

Animals do what they must to survive. All are worthy of life.

My neighbor has a cat that is obviously not very bright. He got into it with a possum twice for whatever reason and wound up at the vet's both times. He hangs with our Obie wan, who seems to be a tad wiser, since he never got into it with the possum. The neighbors trapped the momma and her babies and took them to the dump area where they will be much happier, I think. I know Bubby the cat is happier!

Yikes, Amy, possums can kill a cat! I don't know of one that ever attacked a cat; so far as I know, they only defend themselves. But they're mighty good at defense!

Great images! Years ago one of my friends raised a family of very young one. Their family dog killed their mother, before they could prevent it. The young were very precious and also friendly. Opossums, being a marsupial, are very unique in the USA.

Thanks, Swamp-Cork! Yes, if opossums are raised as pets from when they are very young, they can be quite affectionate. But... those teeth! A small nip could be disastrous for a toddler's finger.

Great Shots. Does he have bare ear tops?

Thanks, bclaker! Yes, the ears are hairless. They stay warm because the skin is so thick as to be leathery -- same as tail and toes. The ear tips will darken with age until they are black.

Sarah Lynn,

"Gaze Through the Stems" is captivating. Great combination of balance and movement. Everything to display the concept is there, but nothing extraneous. Great idea, great eye ... yours, not his.

Respectfully,

Thanks, Jim!
There's a country song about possums? :D Now I gotta head over to youtube...

I enjoyed the saga of Teensy, our April is large, short haired gray and white and easy going, likes to sleep on my lap.

Funny how the largest cats are often the ones most disposed to lap-sleeping! :D I'm having a dreadful time typing right this very moment, because our big old Black Kitty is sprawled between my laptop and me. ;) She's almost 19 years old, and getting a bit blind and hard of hearing, so I don't complain when she wants some cuddling.

Thank you, cam20000, Dixiegirl, cameranut, Sue, and AuntieM! The little pink ears will darken as the opossum ages, until they will be black.

Think it had something up its sleeve? :-D
Actually, it blinked, and I thought I got it with both eyes shut. I was surprised when I looked at my picture to find one eye had come back open, so I wound up with a 'wink'. ;)
