What am I seeing here? Is this a lens that looks like the auto focus lens. It says manual focus.

That's an FD lens. It's for a film camera. Want to buy a nice Canon F1?

I don't know anything about Canon SLR/DSLR cameras. Does not appear to be autofocus and, in fact, the seller states that it IS Manual Focus.
I don't know if it will fit a Canon DSLR mount. Old Nikon lenses will fit most DSLRs, but I don't know about Canon.

Probably, for about $200 or less, you can buy a 50mm f/1.8 with AF for a DSLR.

Yes it is a Canon manual focus lens and will not fit on a DSLR, different mount.

The picture fooled me. I can't believe I did't notice it said it was an FD lens. Saved by Fellow hogs.
Thanks.

This is an older manual focus lens from Canon’s 35mm film cameras.
An adapter will fit it to your DSLR while increasing the focal length and reducing the f setting.
The lens plus an adapter = $100 approx. and you still have a manual focus lens.
A new, auto focus Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens for the modern DSLR is about $120.

At $79.90, a bit overpriced for a Canon FD 50mm F/1.8 lens. With a little patience, you can get one for under $25 on eBay, or often find one at a camera shop for around $10. Most FD-mount Canon cameras included the 50mm F/1.8 as the kit lens, so they are plentiful on the used market. It's actually a quite good performing lens on an FD body; the one on my Canon FTb camera rarely comes off.

I own one and it's an excellent lens, tack sharp and excellent for low light. Fact is it will do either manual or auto switchable on the side of the lens.

No it isn't switchable. As the others have said it is an FD manual focus only lens. It can be used with an adapter on any of the mirrorless system cameras, but I wouldn't pay that price for one.

The adapter will not allow focus to infinity.
The glass inside adapters I have encountered that allow infinity focus will not work as they hit the rear element except for telephoto lenses with a recessed rear element. If you have a source for an adapter that allows infinity focus and does not hit the rear element on normal and wide lenses I would like to know and get one.

If you don't know why are you talking about it??? If you don't know why say anything?

Not that lens he showed us - it's for older film cameras. It's a FD lens, not an EF. It can be used with an adapter but it loses a lot of quality.

There are 3 kinds of adapters - one without glass in it, about $10 but works only as a short extension tube and only allows focus to about 10 feet in front of it. Type 2 has a glass element in it and focuses to infinity but loses a lot of quality in the process, about $30. Type 3 is the Ed Mika replacement of the mount from FD to EF and costs about $100 and is fully functional although still manual focus but it does have focus confirm - available only on ebay and is lens specific and permanently attached to the lens for which it was purchased. I have used glass adapters with a 50mm with no problems of hitting the mirror.
