HDMI / DVI cable problem

I recently installed one of these on my Samsung SynchMaster 2253BW monitor. It worked correctly (i guess) for awhile, flashing "analog / digtal" in the left top corner.

It soon began to not display anything though, other than the analog / digital block in the corner. it would not let me do anything to see anything else. I thought my PC was giving up, but then i unhooked the cable and everything is fine.

Is there some step i missed when i installed the cable, like maybe a setting i needed to set? Maybe it's the cable, i don't know, I'm confused.

Hi tdklex. First, I'd be sure the cable is seated well in the connectors. Unplug and re-plug securely on the monitor and PC.
Then, on the front of the monitor hit the menu button and then navigate the down button(the one to the right of the menu button) down in the menu to the settings section(the icon on mine looks like a picture of slider controls). Click on it and it should display "auto source" and "manual source."
It should be set to "auto source." That way the monitor will accept the signal no matter what kind of cable is used. If that doesn't work out go to "manual source" and set it for the type of cable you are using.
NOTE: You may have to restart the monitor for the settings to save to it.
Other things to check...
Are the drivers current?, although I've never seen this be a problem except for a failed update.
If all else fails possibly try another cable or try this one in a different device.
Lastly, Call Samsung service. The number is 1(800)726-7864. They are top notch and will help you.

Hello tdklex.

Not knowing what OS you are running I ask you did you install the drivers That came with Samsung SyncMaster usually come on a CD or DVD disk. If you are wanting to HD MI it should see it as soon as you hook it up. DVI; should see it too.

I had the same problem with a new ASUS VS278Q. Chatted with the online person to no avail. Only the VGA to VGA worked which is not the reason I bought this model at B&H suggestion.

There should be a button(touch place) on the bottom right side of the monitor that switches the monitor from analog to digital inputs. The lables are hard to see if they are not in bright light. I have to use a flashlight to see them.

Thank You so much. The only buttons i found were on the bottom front of the monitor. Are these maybe between those and i can't feel them?

HDMI really means "half-way developed, mostly intermittent." Format has been a pain in the butt ever since it was introduced. (I thuiink it's now at version 1.4 and version 2.0 is just around the corner.

Cables can be especially difficult - as mentioned here already, proper seating is essential (unplug and replug on both ends.) I'd also consider ordering another cable. You can spend big bucks at a store or enjoy far more reasonable prices at monoprice.com.

If you have actual buttons that's all you will have. Have you tried disconnecting the AC power for a minute?
