You all helped me select a bridge camera, (SX50), for which I am enormously grateful. Now, can you help me select a pocket camera with a price range of $200 to $400. Preferably Canon. Thanks so very much UHHers. Your the best.

I have been very happy with the Canon PowerShot ELPH line for small size, high quality photos and videos and excellent battery life. The current model 340 HS is about $200 list and has 16 megapixel and full 1080P HD video.

Thanks for your quick reply. I will look into it at Best Buy.

You probably already have one - you call it your phone.

I bought a lanyard and attached it to my favorite pocket camera. with the lanyard around my neck and the camera in my shirt pocket, I'm always ready for the lucky shot. The camera is a Canon power shot SD 940(image stabilized) digital elph. With its'12.1 megapixels, it gives me very good service.

I'm happy with my somewhat older Elph, but I'm disappointed that they've stopped putting viewfinders on them

I'm a big believer in viewfinders so if you want to stick with Canon consider a G15 or G16. They are a little over your budget so you can consider a gently used one or a refurbished one. Try keh.com, B&H, Adorama, and Cameta.

If a VF is not important to you, the Elph series is highly regarded.

S110, S120 are true pocket cameras...

How about a used or refurbished older Elph?

I have seen a lot of "old new dealer stock" on eBay (in other words, some camera store is cleaning out their storeroom)

After reading the reviews, I selected the Canon SX-700. 30X optical zoom and intuitive operation. I haven't looked back.

Reported to be a nice small camera. It is at the upper edge of your price range. You should check it out. If it feels too big for your pocket, then the ELPH line has lots of options.

Canon G16. You know the menu system and it shoots in both raw and jpeg. It has an optical view finder and that is a must for any camera.

About 500 smackers(NEW) for the G-16, but I agree, this is a fine camera. I had an earlier(way earlier) iteration of this camera and it was very good. maybe pocket sized?? if you wear big pocketed shirts. I had the G-2, that's way-back.. rjm

I agree. My favorite pocket camera is my Canon SD-1000 Powershot ELPH, now 8 years old. It is only 7.1 MP but is a "real" camera with optical zoom and numerous manual mode options. The optical viewfinder is really handy when shooting outdoors and for fast changing subjects.

Depending on your timeframe, I'd check Canon website for refurb deals. Right now an S110 is 255 bucks. I got my S100 a few months back for $130. With the holidays coming, you'll likely get another sale shot at one of these, and they are true pocket cameras, and do great work.
