I do mostly zoom, closeup, and sunrises. Anyone suggest what lens would be best for me as a newbie to this type camera.

It sounds like you are looking for an "all purpose" lens rather than multiple lenses to cover the range?
I have been totally impressed with the new Sigma 18-300mm Contemporary lens since it came out last month, a very impressive lens and the best superzoom I have tested.

I think that the best lens for a beginner is the Nikon 18-105 VR or Nikon 18-140 VR. You usually can find packages with the D5300 and one of these lenses. Later as you gain experience you can decide what other lenses you want if any. I'm not a fan of the 18-55 VR that is often packaged with the D5300. It's not a bad lens. It's just too limited in range.

Then new Sigma 18-300 is a nice lens. But,..If you should go the route of the 18-55mmVRg "kit" lens be sure to get the 55-300mmVRg zoom. It's inexpensive and a nice clear 300mm zoom for the price. It's also a great starter zoom with a ton of reach, that won't break your bank.
Here's an old favorite shot with the 55-300mm. It's not near perfect. But for the money and distance it's not bad. This was shot from my boat out on Lake Michigan.

The D5300 is a great camera, I'm using a the Nikkor 18-14, 55-300 and a 50mm 1.4 I use the 18-140 the most a very good lens and can be bought in a package Nikon - D5300 Digital SLR Camera with 18–140mm VR Lens Best Value.
I haven't used it much but I'm impressed with the video it takes.

Nikon DB or anyone else. I am looking on EBAY or some stores that sell there and looking for a bundle. I get so confused with all the things in the bundles and whether I need all that.

A strange request I have. Would anyone who looks on EBAY have a recommendation for a package which has what I would need. I like the idea of the lens recommended by Nikon DB.

Thanks

B&H has a sale going on through 11/22 with discounts on Nikon lenses with the purchase of a body.

I just bought the D5300 kit. I've "played" with it as much as work allows. If I had it to do over again I believe I would have gone with the body and the Sigma 18-300 lens separate. Since I've taken a several decades long break from the hobby, and I'm new to DSLR, I am changing lens to study shots at different focal length.

I would pass on ebay and stick with B&H, Adorama, and Cameta. I would be very suspicious of any price significantly lower than theirs. Many packages include junk. If you buy a package, get it from a reliable dealer like the three above.

I have numerous lenses for my D5300, but my "walking around" lens is my Nikkor 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 VR. I also like to carry in my bag a Nikkor 18-70mm F3.5-4.5.

In the 18-70 overlap what is the difference between the two? Is it picture, ease of use, weight?

It is lighter, very clear, and it is fun to use. I know there is an overlap, as you mentioned, but sometimes I just like using it in narrow or crowded areas. They are both great lenses. Just my opinion.

Great advice thanks. Now I think I will look for a bundle that includes those. I think I will need some filters, remote, flash, anything else you think?
