Ken has put together a nice chart of specs there, but its really embarrassing how he almost begs for donations anymore.
Still, when it gets down to brass tacks, that Sigma is a killer deal!

Zeiss - maybe not. However, it is made by Cosina in Japan, and Ken Rockwell isn't impressed.

I read the review. Interesting to learn that a "Ziess" lens is actually a Cosina. But he does not ever say the lens is poor or much different from a real Nikkor lens that the "Fake" Cosina-Ziess is a substitute for. His main objection is that the lens is not AF. To me that is fine, perhaps an advantage. I don't even use the AF on my AF lenses anyway. I practically manual focus everything to begin with. And who shoots sports or wildlife (where you need AF) with a 50mm lens? Personally I'm not interested anyway as I'm drowning in Takumar and Pentax 50 & 55 s already.

I tend to agree -- in principle -- many of the old vintage "film era" and even lenses from a decade ago were far better than what they make today at any price.

Many??
Far better??
Than they make today at any price??

OK. Name many that are far better than the best two named here, far better than the current crop of 300mm & 400mm F/2.8 lenses, far better than the 21mm Distagon or the TS-E 24mm mark 2, far better than what they make today at any price.
