Zinga! 26mm.

PS:
This does NOT work well around Pools, Fountains, Lakes or Rivers. And certainly NOT around Docks.

Be advised.

recently purchased a d3200 nikon and was looking for a wide angle lens, would a 50mm f/1.8d be a good entry level wide angle lens

That would certainly be a good entry level lens, but it is not a wide angle lens and certainly not when used on a crop-sensor camera.

i have a Sony NEX- use it to shoot interiors of houses. what WAL would you recommend, folks? I looked at the 20-200mm telephoto (i think) wayyy too costly

It would be a poor wide angle lens as it falls into the normal lens range although its field of view extends beyond normal. However, since you mentioned f1.8, my Nikkor prime 35mm f1.8 (FX equivalent to approximately field of view 52 mm) is a great low light lens at minimal cost when you need that kind of f-stop capability. As for wide angle, I love the results I get from my Nikkor 10-24mm f3.5-f5.6. It is very sharp and has excellent color rendition.
