I would like to join in in wishing all you vets a Happy Veterans Day. I served with the Army in Korea during the Korean War and we weren't recognized when we came home either. Thankfully we weren't mistreated, just not recognized. My oldest brother was not fortunate enough to return home from World War II. That is a hurt that lasts forever.

I also want to thank those who served. I served during the "so called 'Police Action' in Korea 1951-1955". I wonder how many people remember those times?

My brother was in that "Police Action". I remember the day when he came to my school in the middle of the day in uniform. He had just gotten home. He was 14 years older than me and he had spoiled me rotten. I was so glad when he got home, but he had changed. After Mama passed and I was going through her things I found some letters and pictures that he had sent from Korea. Mentally he was in a bad way. He would never talk to us about it. Wouldn't tell us how he got some scars on his body. I think he got a purple heart.

I can relate in a mild way to the post traumatic stress disorder so many of our vets suffer. I used to work for a bank. The first and second robbery was quiet and I didn't know about it until it was over. The third robbery wasn't quite as quiet. One of the tellers needed some more cash for her drawer so I had taken her into the back room where we kept our daily cash at. I gave her the money and did the paperwork . Just as I got to the point that the robber could see me he threw a big red bag over the teller line and that red bag landed right at my feet. I realized immediately what was going on and walked backwards back into that room we had been in. The young teller was still behind me and I remember stepping on her feet. There was another teller on the phone with another branch and she just sat the phone down and crawled on her hands and knees. I don't know how she fit through the little opening the door had but she managed to get into that room with the 2 of us that were already in there. Standing there hearing everything that was going on and waiting for a bullet to come through that wall and kill me.

I got through all of that and was back leading a normal life. Then one Sunday I went with some friends to see the movie Captin Phillips. In one part of the movie when they are first boarded Captin Phillips sent his men to hid. Watching that I was back in the bank in that little room hearing all the yelling and waiting to be shot. I started shaking and the adrenalin was flowing. Hubby was out of town and I just couldn't go back home by myself. Had to go to my friends house. Just telling the story here has the adrenalin going. So I can understand what our vets go through except that they have much more danger.

I feel bad that did not point this out in my origional post. I think that
like you implied, Korean vets were ignored at the time and still are. I am guilty of it also. I appologize to all you Korean War vets for the omission and, "Welcome Home".
