I have stepped into the photography pond with both feet. I now own 2 cameras haha. Today I bought a sony a3000. I did alot of reading on canon, nikon and wony. It came down to price for me. I choose the sony for a clearance price of 319. Yes I did get the 3yr service plan too. I feel I made an upgrade from my p510. I look forward to using it and learning with it. I did purchase understanding expose by brian peterson. I have learned alot in a very well presented way. If anyone has used or has an opinion on this unit I would like to hear what you have to say. I do have one question on software. Do I have to install the sony software t9 download my pics from camera card used on the sony? My computer is breathing pretty hard with the photoshop program in it now lol. Thanks
Congrats on your new toy from a Nikon guy. I love early Christmas when you get want you want.

T answer your Question. No,you don't have to install the Sony disc on your computer if you have or purchase a card reader. That's a better way to go anyway as you save on using the camera battery .
There is no need to download or install the Sony software. I don't use it myself.
If your running Windows, you should be able to use the USB cable that comes with the camera. Your camera will show up in Explorer as a removable disc. Your photos will be in one of the sub folders. I generally use the cut and paste method of moving files off the camera to a folder on my hard drive. Oh, and congratulations on your new camera. The a3000 is a lot of bang for the buck for sure in that price range.

Thanks I did sign in. I am excited to start using it and showing my wife how to use my nikon.
I would NEVER use CUT and paste, better to use COPY and paste just in case there is a problem transferring the photos from camera to computer you will still have the photos and have not CUT them from the camera card.
I would get a card reader for you type of card and put card in it, hook that up to the computer and transfer copies of photos to the computer and when you disconnect the card reader, check to make sure the photos made it to your Pictures folder and where you wanted them(named a folder in My pictures) then is when you can put the card back in the camera and remove the photos from the card by deleting. Every third of fourth time you should "format" your card which takes all remnants of old photos off the card.
Thanks for the help guys. I will let you know how it works out.
If you don't mind me asking, where did you get it? BB has it for $359 with the lens. Thanks
Dan
I got mine from my local walmart for 319. It was their last one. The lady said they werent getting anymore in. Target has them for 399, the web site says 345.
