"God knows what the oil companies have up their sleeve !"[/quote]

Everyone complains about how rich the oil companies are getting at 7 cents per gallon profit, but I never hear any complaints about the 18.4 cents the feds get out of a gallon or the the 23.4 cents on average the states are getting per gallon. Just a little something to think about.

Just under $3 per gal her in Ct. When gas prices went up so did grocery & retail ("everything moves by truck", they said); now that gas prices are going down why aren't the other prices?

That's the best question I've heard so far. & Also Why is it that prices can go up 15 cents over night and then it takes 3 weeks to come back down. I don't think it's the oil companies, it's the retailers.

My guess is, it is the taxes that goes with the price per gallon. That would explain why the prices decline slowly.
It may also help explain why retail & grocery prices remain high.
I will concede we had droughts and floods that damaged some crops and farmers need good years to hedge against bad years but not all products were affected.
What excuse do retailers have? They close stores, reduce staff, reduce in-store inventory and still prices climb.

Some gas stations post the cash price of gas. Others post the one price they pay, regardless of payment method. We have Quick Chek here, and they have their own payment card. That's the lowest price listed. Cash is higher, and CC is higher still. Our county politicians are trying to pass a law that would require more accurate listings.

I got gas yesterday at a local place - $3.25 became $3.32 when I inserted the CC. Since I save 5% using the CC, I still came out ahead. It is annoying, though. I usually buy my gas at Citgo. It's the cheapest around, and they have one price for all payment type.

Yesterday our gas at 'Casey's' was $2.85. Who knows today or tomorrow?

Showing my age and admitting that I pumped gas while in HS, that was priced at $.20 a gallon, I continue to be amazed at discussions feeling good about gas dropping below $3.00 a gallon. We were living in Dallas, TX when the Arabs ran the price up to $.69 a gallon, and there were lines waiting for gas a mile long. I am guilty of driving extra miles to get a cheaper price today, when in truth it cost me more to get there than I saved. Much to my wife's chagrin, I will pass up several gas stations while on a long trip, even as we are getting close to fumes left in the tank, just to get a $.02 cheaper per gallon price. When challenged about it, I relate the story about "I pumped gas for $.20 a gallon" and they leave me alone in my malaise.

Wow - you guys got it really easy. In the UK petrol costs in the region of $8+ per gallon

I remember paying about 6 bucks a gallon in Ireland in the late 1990s.....I also remember "gas wars" in the late 50s and early 60s and remember paying .18 a gallon.

I'm assuming these prices are dollars per gallon, I think those of us here, that live in Canada can beat all the U.S. prices. Where I live, Penhold, Alberta, about half way between Calgary and Edmonton, the price is , wait for it, LOL, $4.98 per gallon.

$4.11 a US Gallon here in Ontario that is at $1.08 a litre, it really varies all over, $1.08 to $1.13 here this week.

but could jump right back up again, was $1.30 a litre few weeks ago.

no rhyme or reason, big oil is making big money and so are the various governments.

Interesting when I travelled to Great Britain and Europe the gas seemed to be the same price per litre as here in Canada, just here it was Cdn dollars, British pounds in Britain and Euros in Europe. Made me feel a little better but the price only matters where you live and drive.

I would drive all day back in the late 50s at 35 cents a gallon, who knew that prices would raise this high.

That's just what I say. What a nation of dummies!
We were being ripped off royally when gas was $.25 a gallon.

D/L the GasBuddy app for your phone. Use it to find bargains along your route so ya don't waste gas driving out of your way, or spend too much 'here' rather than getting the bargain just 'over there.'

Hay, I used to live in Parsippany NJ and used to take trips at 25 cents a gallon to Pennsylvania just for the ride. I loved the country settings in Pennsylvania and would stop in at all the antique stores just to poke around. Guess now people would think twice about doing that with gas prices the way they are.
