There are several ways to lighten a part of the image and darken another part in Photoshop Elements 10. A couple of ways are to use selections or layers and and a layer mask.

You'd do those in the Editor after adjusments in ACR. As noted you can use the "Recovery" slider in ACR. Below is just editing in ACR with the Recovery slider all the way over. It fixes the dark on the lower right and a lot of the blow out in the sky. Also fiddled with the others. It doesn't look the same here in as in PSE10...not sure why.

If you don't have it you might enjoy Kelby and Kloskowski's book on Elements 10. Check out the example on "pseudo HDR" as one way to do what you want.

The warmer look is good in my opinion. I have yet to figure out how to make adjustments in Camera Raw that allow me to do so to just certain areas. Maybe Elements can't do it. I often want to lighten one area but darken another but can't figure out how to do that. I only know how to make those adjustments to the entire image. So much to learn. Thank you for giving it a shot. :)

Another thing to try is some cropping.

A graduated ND4 or 8 filter on the camera lens would have aided the original. IMO.

Is it correct to "assume" your lens had a the correct lens shade?

That's a nice crop. Fine believable color tint as well.

I shot this image yesterday with my D7000. I'm getting progressively disappointed in some of my landscape shots and I'm not sure if it's a problem with the settings I'm using or if I'm just not processing them right.
This particular shot seems like it could be so much more than what it turned out to be. I'm posting a full size original untouched JPEG and then a smaller copy of the one I processed. I shoot in RAW but my camera has two slots for memory cards so I use one for RAW and the other records in JPEG so it has not been converted from RAW. The one I processed was.
I'm inviting anyone and everyone to download the original, play with it and repost it. I'm curious to see what everyone can do with it.

Just goofing around with your shot using Smart Photo Editor.
Just for info .. this was shot north of Quincy, IL near the Canton Chute rest area on the Mississippi River.
Thanks for your help and I welcome any suggestions or constructive criticism.

Well, I certainly was not there to see what you saw. Likewise, I am not sure what your mind's eye sees as what the resulting image should represent. With these thoughts in mind, I played with your original image a bit, trying to come up with something I would like.

First, I checked levels, contrast and color, finding them to be fine. Then I lightened the shadow end of the curves just an ever so slight amount. I found a few "blemishes" in the image (three or four), which I then eliminated.

Next, I warmed the image with an Auto F/X filter. Then a added a blue horizon at about 60% saturation and about 25% of the top of the image. Finally, I added a nice edge effect, with increased canvas size for balance.

Don't know if this is what you had in mind? To me, it is a pleasing image.
