Lightroom does not loose pictures. You are moving them with some other software and not telling Lightroom where you put them. If you really want to use Windows to move files around, read up on the "Synchronize" function in Lightroom. It is there to "fix" what you are doing.

I hope Lightroom doesn't "loose" pictures because you wouldn't want your pictures to be loose. Then Lightroom might "lose" your pictures.

I really appreciate all these responses. I actually didn't know that you could use both at the same time. I actually have an engineering degree but, like many people my age, I'm high-tech challenged.

What's your age? I'm 70 and I love a challenge and in fact I help the grandchildren.

Those are the two leaders, "fer shurre". However, check out some others. Especially Corel Paintshop Pro, Onone's Perfect Photo Suite, and a couple others. Photoshop is great (I'm less enthralled by Elements). Also, Corel's Aftershot Pro does more than Lightroom, faster and is less expensive.

Of course, if you want to be a lemming and follow everyone else, Lightroom and Photoshop.

For my $$$ $9.99 for the Adobe Photoshop CC w/ Lightroom is the best investment you can make today. What a bargain it is and a good way to test the waters before you start buying all the goodies out there.

PSE 13 at Costco 79.99
Lightroom 5 at B&H 76.99 or if you are an Amazon Prime member they have a members price of 49.99
I am one of those who doesn't rent from adobe. You spend 160.00 once, it is clear, no worry about deactivation if money gets tight and you have to decide to cut the 10.00 a month or something else. They do more than I need or want 99+% of the time. When I need to go beyond I have Paint Shop Pro X6 which was 79.99 when I got it. And there are on line tutorials for PSP X6 (X7 is out and still under 100.00)
PSE 13 at Costco 79.99 br Lightroom 5 at B&H 7... (show quote)

I was interested in this myself. The $76.99 was for upgrading LR. Full version is $139 at B&H.

I also have not crossed over . I have Photo Shop Elements 10 and a new D7100 . A upgrade is a must for me. Could go with PSE 13 & Light Room. Trying to hold out until BLACK FRIDAY so I can find it at a lower price or a bundle deal. Not sure I will . But after Black Friday I will pull the trigger. good luck

The best dynamic Organizers I know of are Windows Live Photo Gallery which is strong on organizing, but weak on photo editing.

I've found it is quite good at noise reduction, but other than that, Faststone is my flavor.

I use Lightroom and Photoshop Elements but there are some great alternatives.
ACDSEE has a wonderful suite of programs.
Core has Aftershot Pro 2 that seems to be close to Lightroom in its goals and Paintshop Pro.
Both ACDSee and Corel offer 30 day free trials
Corel's software is much less pricy than Adobe's and they often have deep discounts off the already lower prices. They also offer upgrade pricing something that I have never seen from Adobe
I ended up choosing Adobe's programs because most other people in our photography club use them and I wanted to be be to share information and techniques with them.

I read somewhere just the other day, I think it was on this forum, where somebody said that Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw are the exact same program and that Adobe Camera Raw is built into Photoshop Elements 12 under the "File" menu, and that there was also an organizer built into Elements that will do about what Lightroom does on that end of things. Whoever said that also said he had talked to an Adobe engineer and he confirmed that information. If what I read is true, I don't think I would be buying Elements and Lightroom.

I think it's better to own something outright rather than to keep paying on it forever.
