Hello. A friend is visiting DC this weekend and will be shooting family portraits (3-5 people with kids).
She is looking for location suggestions that offer some variety of features (benches, water, fences, trees, etc.) and where no fee is required. Small neighborhood parks might be an option, or some other not-too-urbany greenspace. Wants to avoid including any of the major landmarks.
Thanks in advance to all who can offer some specific advice.
Go from Chevy Chase (beautiful neighborhood with old trees) into Rock Creek Park.
Can't beat it. It has everything you need to get some great shots. We are pretty much past peak but you should be able to find some nice spots for photographs.
If you go south, try daingerfield island.
Great Falls National Park on the MD side lots of rock formations and a bride/boardwalk across Olmstead Island to view the Falls. The C and O canal runs through there also. Rock Creek Park is wonderful too.
If she wants the iconic Washington DC look, go to the capital mall. Lots of fountains, reflecting pools and of course back drops of the Capitol, Lincoln an and Jefferson (and many others) memorials. Also lots of trees and benches.
DC should be an exciting place to create a family portrait.
