For me, presently, it seems to be my Nikon 85mm f/1.4 :)
The sharpest lens I have used is a Vivitar 55mm Macro.
Curious discussion.
I'd always understood prime lenses to be any fixed focal-length lens, from ultra wide to ultra-telephoto. Lenses are divided into primes and zooms.
Those lenses that are neither wide angle or telephoto are "normal" lenses. They can be either prime or zoom.
What Pics. Do You Want To Take? Sharpness Is Relative To Need. Macro , up To Landscape

OK, I think I'm still confused... So a prime lens is "fixed" at a certain mm? Any lens that varies from say 70mm to 300mm isn't a prime lens. Is that correct?
Thanks,
Andy
That would be correct if all the technical jargon is stripped away. It's all semantics. :D

That just scratches the surface. :XD:

Thanks, I always considered myself a quick learner....then I took up photography as a hobby! Turns out I'm not so quick after all. :D

In your opinion, what is the sharpest lens that you have ever tried? Regardless if it is prime or telephoto.
Zeiss Planar 80mm 2.8 on a Roliflex f Wish now I hadn't parted with that camera but a six x six didn't fit in with my 35mm kit.
Oh well.

I forgot I had for a short time a Zorki 4 it had a wonderfully sharp 50mm f2 lens, gave that away to concentrate on Canon who later let me down when they dumped the FD lens system.
Can't say I've had anything as bitingly sharp even in the most modern of leses.

Sharper than a 50 1.8 or a 50 1.4 , or a 50 1.2 ???
And I hope to hell no one answer your question...............
BTW, someone said there was no stupid question....
I think he spoke too soon !
Wow! Did someone get up on the wrong side of bed?

I'm really curious - what are these '1/10 lens' and '1/26"p' that you mention? Thanks
Two, yes, those are curious numbers. Somebody else said it would be a great macro for 4/3s.
It's not a normal lens. The 1/10 means that it sees an 80 mm field of view at 12" and reduces it to 8mm. So in essence it magnifies ten times, as opposed to 1:1 macro.
The 1/26p is 26 tread "pitch" per inch with a 39mm screw mount.
Hey, what can I say, it's a Nikkor !!

Read all 8 pages - - didn't see this lens mentioned - - so will post as I own one. And while there may be sharper lenses out there - - this is the sharpest one that I own.
-
It is my single extravagance so far - - and doesn't see near enough use - - but - - will be there when I DO have time:
-
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
-
I also like that it is a flat field focus lens. The attached photo was taken with it some time back.
Remember when looking at the full download image - the depth of field for these Macro lenses can be quite shallow.
